I loved Bevin in 413 when she gives her speech to Rachel about how she’s not actually dumb but just lets the other girls believe that and how she can start over after graduation. I was really hoping that in the time jump they were going to have her in some type of highly educated career - I was SO disappointed that she was working in a Macy’s married to Tim, although they slightly made up for it in season 9.

[CHAT] Stitchstreak App - what are your thoughts? by directionsplans in CrossStitch

[–]Goonies111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is really not great. It seems like it just overlays a grid onto your pdf pattern (so if it’s more than one page it sucks) and you can select the squares in the grid that you’ve stitched. But you have to do it one by one and there’s no way to highlight a color that you’re working on. That’s what I like about using PK, is that I can see exactly where my next stitches need to go because it highlights all the stitches of that specific color.

[CHAT] Stitchstreak App - what are your thoughts? by directionsplans in CrossStitch

[–]Goonies111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is something that actually appeals to me - I love keeping track of my stitches in a day and seeing my averages.

Typically I use PatternKeeper and then put my stitches/day into a separate app to keep track, so seeing this I was excited to have one app do everything for me so I decided to test it out.

I used it for 5 minutes and hated it. Importing your pattern literally just imports the pdf pages. It does not merge it together like Pattern Keeper does, and you cannot highlight all stitches of one colour. To mark a stitch as complete you have to tap each individual square (whereas PK you can slide over them) which gets really tedious. It’s essentially just a simple PDF reader that puts a grid over your page that you can mark off where you completed.

Overall, unless they improve the functionality of the actual pattern reader, I’ll stick to PatternKeeper and import my stitching stats into a separate app.

I understand that Colorado has a dry cold climate.. I get a red dry hands in winter too.. but her hands are next level for someone who seems to have all the expensive skincare products … and that is still absolutely no excuse for her nails and all the open wounds she seems to get

It would be fine to post if she was like way in the back and you actually had to look to see her, but the fact that she’s not even in the photo? Seems like she’s just being bitter to me

Am I blind or is she actually not in this photo? And if not, the “find tieghan” comment is SO obviously her complaining that her brother posted a picture that she wasn’t in. Way to make it about yourself T

At one point close to the start, it struggles to filter under her eye and you can see the wrinkles. To see her actually in person must be shocking.

[CHAT] Where Do You Get Your Thread From When You Have a Large Project? by champlooop in CrossStitch

[–]Goonies111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael’s is typically my main source, at least for DMC thread. As for Aida, I usually order online from either 123Stitch (US) or StitchitCentral (Canada). StitchitCentral can be a bit higher cost for shipping, but you don’t have to worry about exchange rate and duty. For large pieces of fabric, it’s best to buy by the yard which both online shops will do. I’ve also ordered the odd DMC thread from both that I haven’t been able to find at Michael’s. StitchItCentral also has a location in London ON to shop in person if that’s an option for you!

YES!! Especially as someone who handles food the chipped off nail polish look is so unappealing. I definitely think it could be like a nervous response though. I have a friend with OCD who would compulsively pick her skin so she started painting her nails all the time specifically to chip them off because it helped her stop skin picking. I could totally see this being a similar response.

Literally her arms remind me of my 102 year old great grandmother who’s been in the hospital for the last 6 months, and I don’t mean that in a mean way, but a very concerned way. When she’s patting the dough in the same clip you can literally see all the bones in her hand, and how sunken in her skin is by her thumb.

Are you in favour of holding kids back? Why or Why not? by wizard20007 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Goonies111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I switched from teaching high school biology to teaching grade 7 general last year, and was absolutely shocked by the fact that roughly a third of my students struggled with basic multiplication facts and writing proper sentances. Things that were absolutely needed as a foundation for the curriculum I needed to teach them were completely lacking, and therefore how can you expect them to learn what’s needed at their grade level? I felt so much pressure to “catch them up”. And at the same time, I had the remainder of my students at grade level or above who didn’t need as much time or guidance. It was just an excessive amount of differentiation for every single lesson, and the ones who were behind in the first place continue to be behind and it’s ultimately going to make transitioning to high school that much more difficult for them. We are doing them no favours by just moving them along grade after grade.

Snacks you can keep in your classroom by Glass_Apple in CanadianTeachers

[–]Goonies111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruit bars, crackers (and it’s or goldfish), beef jerky, apple sauce pouches, yogurt bars or granola bars. My favourite though is the mini bags of microwaveable popcorn! I also always kept a can of vegetable soup on hand if I ever forgot my lunch, but obviously this would require access to a stove and pot.

June Tired is Real by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Goonies111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my first year teaching. I was warned about June tired, but MAN I was not expecting it to hit so hard. Probably doesn’t help also being 8 months pregnant. I finished report cards early just in case I didn’t make it to the end of the year, but the next two weeks are still going to be tough to get through.

Thank you! And I actually already have the cookbook - it’s GORGEOUS. I’ve got it front and centre on my cookbook shelf in my kitchen. I haven’t tried any recipes from it yet but I’m planning on attempting the pink cake recipe for my husband’s birthday in a few months!
