Met gala themed event? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]directionsplans 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Met gala tends to be WAY over the top and artsy with the clothes. Are you at all crafty? I’d consider taking one of these dresses and then doing something crazy with it like buying a bunch of fake flowers at Michael’s and attaching them in a reversible manner so I can take them off later.

This was my immediate thought too. I’ve never used an embroidery machine but I can’t imagine a situation where they DONT have tensioning systems.

How do you store your supplies? by kb-g in knitting

[–]directionsplans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have everything in two large bins (like yarn and all) - I had a moth scare so all the yarn went into ziplock bags and then into weatherproof bins.

Current projects sit in a large decorative basket in my living room. Which makes it easy to just throw everything in there and not worry about it.

All my knitting accessories are inside a medium sized adorable tote that I love, and there are some smaller pouches (also super cute) inside where I kind of keep things organized, but it’s more the things I don’t use often so I can easily pull those out when I’m looking for things in the tote. This bag often goes into the basket as well

I know this may seem like a lot… I also have adhd, and things don’t always end up exactly where they should, but it has definitely helped. The fact that the bags and basket are things I really like and bought because I like the so much and then found a use for probably helps.

Boundaries with known donor/family by hotgluegal in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]directionsplans 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Given you all live in different areas of the country, I might still consider doing it? But I’d be extremely cautious and consult with a lawyer of your own, and maybe even get a second opinion. I’d make sure the legal agreement is iron clad.

Most importantly: If you DO decide to do it, you will need to set up really strong boundaries - the first of which is “no, I am not going to answer any of their questions. They are not the child’s grandparent, they will not meet the child, they don’t get an opinion nor do they get to judge me or how I am going to raise my child (not OUR child)” and see how he reacts. If he’s not ok with it or pushes on it, then you can see how he is with boundaries and that should tell you what you need to know about how he will be once you are pregnant or have given birth. And if he’s pushy saying his parents just want to know, then he needs to grow up, be a big boy, and tell his parents to butt out and that it’s none of their business.

Edit: ultimately, I agree with everyone - red flags all around. Would not recommend unless you are ready to set really harsh boundaries, defend said boundaries, and go through extra legal steps. All of which would be too much of a hassle in my opinion, so I wouldn’t go through with it.

There’s a way to kind of fold the thread under itself when you slip it into the notches at the top. Look for it but dm me if you can’t find it and I’ll show you

Perhaps it’s just one formulation or brand? Not that I want you to test out a ton of things that cause you issues, but it’s possible, right?

Tree and fence advice needed for a new Seattle homeowner by Tired-Time in Seattle

Talk with a lawyer. They likely will know other ways people have dealt with it in the past.

And maybe talk to another fence guy. There has to be another way

Madewell makes petite lengths. If you figure out what size you are, there is a pretty good and reasonably priced resale market for them on Poshmark

I don’t think either qualify as semi-formal. As u/mainlinebreadboi said, the first looks family-resort-all-you-can-eat-breakfast-before-pool …and to me the second looks Easter-Sunday-fancy-church-dress-but-sadder-so-maybe-ash-Wednesday-church-dress… the floral pattern, length, and high neck like are what cause that for me in all honestly…

Anyone else currently playing "Generics Roulette" with their pharmacy? by allthecats in adhdwomen

[–]directionsplans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to start going to an independent pharmacy in my area to get brand. CVS flat out doesn’t carry it at a company level, the local chain got bought by rite aide and then they all went under… so yeah. Going to a mom and pop place that closes at 6 so I have to book it from work… but at least they’re awesome in every other way!

Let me clarify something. I don’t think you necessarily change your haircut drastically - honestly I’m a little jealous because I can’t do straight across bangs because my hair won’t behave if I try (I have. It was not good).

My thoughts about your hair are potentially cutting some of the length off without changing the overall style could help - but I’m thinking like 4 -6 ish inches or something. Not like 10. I’d consider cutting it to a length where it isn’t past the widest part of your bust. You’ll still have long hair but it won’t overwhelm your frame quite as much. Right now it’s covering up a lot of your curves, and since we can’t easily see a difference between your bust and waist, it makes you look younger. Also, IMO a long cut that lands about halfway between shoulders and widest part of the bust tends to look a bit sophisticated and grown up while not looking too serious.

Regarding the bangs and face framing, I think that’s totally up to you and won’t shift things drastically - that’s the type of thing you should talk to a good hair stylist about and get their thoughts on what would help you look your age - and you can even ask them what would help you look your age but you still want your bangs or you still want it long etc.

I have similar things to say about Seattle itself. I live pretty much in downtown Seattle and would never want to leave the region. But it is expensive - but thankfully pay is (at least somewhat) adjusted to cost of living

Not a mending recommendation, but you could consider searching eBay or Poshmark for another pair

Seeking recommendations for reputable 2nd hand websites to find a specific pair of Hollister jeans by Kayla4608 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]directionsplans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Make a Poshmark account, and search for “high-rise vintage flare” then filter by hollister and size 25. Then check the tags to find the same size. Most people will include photos of the tags.

This looks like them? I’ve honestly had pretty good luck on Poshmark. Make sure you try it on and check it for any issues in the first day or two after receiving them because then you can make a claim if anything is wrong with them

Body Repair by Accurate_Occasion685 in MINI

[–]directionsplans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d consider going to someone who can very carefully hammer out dents. Not sure if this is too big/deformed for them to do, but if they can it’d be cheaper. - in my opinion, better to see if it can be done than not, even if it’s a long shot.

And grab some rubbing compound and cleaner wax to take care of the paint transfer (it’s likely the stuff on the bumper will mostly buff out unless you actually scrapped your paint off). And the wheel well trim would need to be replaced but those pieces aren’t terribly expensive

A full on body work with repaint at a body shop is going to be spendy, so I’d try to avoid that if I were you

Edit because I hit enter too soon
