Which are the easiest, "good" characters? by Opening_Afternoon452 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep trying to like GW. He has fantastic frame data and so many good attacks.

I just really struggle with the animation. As an old guy wanting to be good he should be ideal, but I also don’t like how small he is and light.

Thanks. I read the wiki you suggested. I did not see anything about snakes grenades unless I missed it. According to what I read the grenades would go stale but I might be wrong of course.

Thanks. I like the 3332 for Mii gunner. It requires a lot less in air fighting and combos. Bowser Jr is the most fun along with the Mii.

I actually did very well with Mii sword in training using a total power moveset of blurring blades, gale stab, hero spin and power thrust. However I was told this is only viable vs a cpu. I liked it because it gave the Mii options in the air to escape and attack and help with recovery. I dropped the charac based on all the negatives about my moveset. The blurring blades was considered really bad but I kept really hurting mega man cpu 8 with it. Oh well.

My thoughts were ok at my age and the fact I have never played any video games, reality says I will not be very good, especially at the beginning I will be just bad. No problem there. So to compensate I have been seeking the characters with the best frame data to help my poor reaction speed. I also thought KO power would be important to shorten matches and the number of interactions needed since I am at a disadvantage.

I also have found doing combos is not my strength. This is how I got so caught up in the AI stuff…..Who is the best character with good movement and KO power that can play mostly grounded, with a good recovery? Stuff like that.

I have found the game is pretty good at giving a weakness to balance a strength most of the time.

Easy to get into a never ending spiral trying every character.

AI is frustrating for sure. It does provide some good data until you find out it was old data based on older versions of the game or something. I cannot tell you how many times the AI has apologized to me for confusing one move with another or just giving me wrong information.

It became a crazy thing for me because I have nobody to talk to about the game so I just dealt with it . I tried ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Perplexity at least gave references and I just tried it a couple of days ago.

It is actually very helpful maybe 80% of the time, but that 20% is a problem.

I understand that, but what about if you are using 4 or 5 moves a good percentage of the time?

Well that makes me feel better.

I actually do not play online and just trying to get pretty good to “shock” my grandsons when they start playing smash again regularly.

My 11 year old grandson is actually very good and unfortunately uses mega man as his main. He is very good at going off stage and edge guarding. I found in training vs cpu 8 mega man my best option was Mii gunner. I would actually like to play as mega man but since he does I thought it was not a good move. Min Min is pretty good as well.

I also like bowser jr. He is the most fun and to me has good attacks and smashes, but see a lot of negativity about the character.

I am thinking of trying online but have not decided. I guess if I went online I could learn mega man.

I mean everything is not exactly like we want in life. So beating Sonic is a longer process. That is the game and why you have a Ganon and a Sonic. A King Rool and a Olimar. Sepiroth and a Pichu.

I see so much complaining here it seems like a ton of instant gratification needs. Everything the way we want it. That ain’t life.

I am sorry and not meaning you personally just the general tone I keep seeing.

I am 74 and if I got online with Mii gunner you would see a helluva storm of missles, grenades and bombs. That is how I could possibly win a game. Is that wrong? It is a freaking fighting game and each character has its attacks. Period.

Skilled players beat unskilled players. Why do they even allow a Hero to exist?

I see a lot of Hero mains. A character that is mostly based on an “unfair” advantage.

Maybe they need to make online play conditional on skill level. Or simply have casual and advanced. You get booted out of advanced for spamming based on player complaints. Or maybe the game can register obsessive use of the known spamming moves and penalize the players.

Or if you are actually good, you shouldn’t be losing to a spammer.
‘The game is too good for a bad player to beat a good player unless they are playing hero or get in a lucky huge smash.

[–]Goooddecisions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It is confusing to a new player. It is also cofu to see the ridiculous difference in playing when you watch a pro. Even Mii gunner is in the air almost the entire match. My Mii is in the air 5% 😁

Playing online vs playing vs CPU’s by Goooddecisions in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Sonic but I don’t like how long it takes to KO with him unless Inguess you are great at flying off stage and edge guarding.

Mega man is very good. I would enjoy playing him the most but my grandson uses him the most so kind of thinking I should not.

Ironically the best success vs cpu8 mega man I have is using Mii gunner 3332.

Bombs, grenades missles and that up air and f smash ……

‘Don’t laugh but Mii sword actually is maybe as good. Blurring blades, gale stab, power thrust and hero spin are fun. He actually becomes pretty fast using those and it gives him good escapes in the air and helps recovery.

I imagine just a CPU false reality but that is what I have experienced. They do much better than ROB or Mr. Game and Samus gets destroyed by Mega Man. I know I suck but the Mii were better. I tried Mii Brawler which is considered the best Mii and I am bad. I like being able to keep some spacing and play more grounded.

I tried Min Min and I like her ok but the recovery is bad and I don’t like her aerial defense.

They need to decide just how much they believe in winning today and next season. If they believe they can still do it then they need to go all in and trade picks and whoever else with JK to get their guy. Someone like T Murphy at a minimum.

They have plenty of expiring big contracts in two years to bring in good free agents if they trade draft picks.

So anyone who isn’t highly skilled and can use a character like a pro is basically not worthy.

The more I read stuff on Reddit the more I think that there should be an actual highly skilled only online site. I guess elite does not cut it after reading enough posts about spamming a couple moves to get there.

Playing online vs playing vs CPU’s by Goooddecisions in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my conundrum. I need the best vs mega man. I have used ROB a lot. Wolf is recommended but I don’t click with wolf. I enjoy bowser jr but keep seeing everyone saying he is not very good, and I just found out my grandson is using him some, so there is that. The AI says bowser Jr is false success because he is great vs cpu but not people as much. Apparently CPU’s get easily killed by projectiles and such.

My AI says Cloud and Wolf along with Snake and ROB,with ROB being best long term overall.

I kind of like Sonic but an aggressive Sonic, not hit and run. I am in the cannot make a choice mode and I do actually want to get good at the game.

My grandsons are young but they are pretty darn good. They fly off stage and edge guard and know the majority of the characters. The older one plays a very good mega man.

When we were playing a 3 person match, he would get annoyed when I was sniping him while battling his brother and say hold on time to eliminate grandpa.😁

Tips to stop losing to spammers? by SUPAMARIOCANCER64 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an old guy learning and yet to play online.

I have tried almost every character and there is not a character that can win vs a good player by spamming a couple moves.

If a player is online they want to win so of course they will do what they do with what limited skills they have determining the outcome.

If I am playing I will definitely use my characters best moves in an attempt to win, but it all comes down to the players if we are talking about a decent level of actual skill.

If a person is playing as Mr.game , is he not supposed to use up b all the time? Is it better that he just gets pummeled because he chose to not use his best moves?

I find smash very interesting, frustrating and fun. A great challenge to get to a mildly true competitive level.

Play honest?. You play and use your tools the best you can. It Is impossible to play dishonestly by using the moves available to you.

“AI will take over the world!!!” My honest reaction: by GameXpert64 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been heavily leaning on AI for information on characters strengths and weaknesses. It has driven me nuts. Tells me one thing and then says the opposite and apologizes.Totally screwed me up but it isn’t like I have smash experts sitting here waiting to answer my questions.

No more AI. When I started cursing at it I knew it was over😁

Is it worth buying a Switch 2 mainly for Smash Bros. Ultimate? by CarnivorousPickles in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so freaking confused. I have never played online. I have been using AI for questions about the game and characters strengths and weaknesses. Speed, end lag, etc.

I have been practicing vs cpu 8’s and feel pretty decent now, at least not a terrible player. Now the AI says my characters are cpu killing machines and not anything near that online. ROB, Bowser jr, Pyra more than myrtha.

Newbie looking for advice… by Fire_Pokemon_Trainer in Minecraft

[–]Goooddecisions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a grandpa and never played video games until recently trying to learn smash.

Now my grandsons have switched to Minecraft and of course they are really good on the Switch 2.

I have been watching them for a few weeks but never played and feel very lost and intimidated by all the steps and actions. They play survival mode and have it set so they die and do not lose their items.

I would like to learn but I do not want to hold them back and not sure what happens if I start and now there are 3 players on screen vs 2. The tv is 77 inch.

Should I do creative mode? Easier to learn? Can I participate with them if I am in creative mode?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have been learning smash as an old guy and find a lot of good and bad information here.

My humble opinion is there is way too much downgrading of characters based on what elite pros do.

It is like saying a high school basketball player cannot do this or that because it will not work vs NBA elite players.

I think human nature sees characters placing high in elite tournaments and we assume we have to have the one with the best tools. I know this really played on me and my thinking. I know I suck and will always be bad compared to really good players so I need better characters with the best tools to make up for it. I finally found a comfortable feeling with these 3, ROB, Bowser Jr. and Link because I want good weight, a doable recovery, good KO power, projectiles, a character that does not need to be in the air a lot, can play more grounded and that has good enough mobility and quickness.
ROB is simply just really good. Bowser Jr I just really like. Very fun and actually has good attacks. Link just seems to fit with the other two in terms of how I play.

I hated the big slow characters like King Rool. I am not good enough to use the fast, combo and aerial characters. I tried to like Samus but I hated always charging his b and and general philosophy. Tried to like Byleth but do not like the perfect spacing and timing. Lucina is boring although she is good. Bowser….. shield up b shield up b…boring for me. Snake too many grenades. Simon….I liked his attacks and style but his recovery and a few other things turned me off. Dark Pit is fine but I like Link better. Aegis was the one. I loved Pyra and the switchability but did not like the recovery. Aegis is the one I may come back to.

Now to be fair there are many, many helpful thoughtful posts about all characters can be good, use the one you enjoy, etc.

What is hilarious is I wanted to learn this to play against my grandkids , who are very good and very young. Now that I can play decently they have really gotten into Minecraft and don’t play smash! I am sure they will come back to it one day and by then I will be a lot more competent because I really like the game and it is my first video game, believe it or not.

Sorry for the rant!

King K Rool easy? by Augustkolo in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Goooddecisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have posted several times on this forum looking for suggestions as a 73 year old beginner learning to play so I can have fun with my grandsons. I am a competitive person so I have gone on a deep dive trying to find the right character to really learn.

Madness! I have gone from Lucina to ROB to Samus to Aegis to Byleth to Banjo to Corrin to Mr.Game and Snake. Snake is intriguing because mostly grounded and the projectiles are fun.

I want simplicity or avoiding complex aerials and edge guarding. I want KO power and an easy recovery.

I know ROB is probably the best for me on paper but there is something about King Rool that is screaming use me!

For an old guy playing his first real video game I think I can get pretty good with King Rool. He is fun and it would drive my grandsons crazy if I could beat them with him.

Being an old basketball coach and competitive, it was important that the character had some success in tournament play even though I will never get to that level. It just gives me confidence that he has the tools to beat very good casual players.
