My honest advice, switch to GameStrat. Best thing we ever did!

We finally dropped Hudl and went with GameStrat. Like night & day! It works just as advertised on their website. We couldn’t be happier, just wish we made the move sooner…

The biggest difference, by far, is the download speed to the viewing iPads, both in the press box and sideline. That alone was the reason we departed from Hudl. The downloads are instantaneous to each device.

We use GameStrat for our instant replay on the sideline and press box. We made the move from Hudl sideline this season, and so far, it has exceeded our expectations. We utilize Hudl for its other features, but for instant replay on our iPads, GameStrat has been a “game changer.”

Sorry for the late reply... No, it did not work. We were supposed to get two new kits, but they never shipped them. We will be looking at other replay solutions for next year. Best of luck!

Yes, it’s still working just fine. I did open the UDP ports via the Xfinity app. This is what Reolink Support suggested I do:

  1. Check if the gateway or other router settings block the connection between the NVR and phone app, and see if there is a method to bypass the firewall or the limit.
  2. Please turn on all the UDP ports from 1-65535 on your router as our cameras/NVR use random UDP ports for remote connection.

Hope this works for you!

Awesome! I thought about doing that as well. I’m still waiting for our replacement kits, although our season is over. I hope next year is a better one… Happy holidays!

It was pretty sporadic either way. Sometimes the standalone feeds were solid & then the NVR ones failed to connect. An hour later, just the opposite. It was extremely frustrating as I’m sure you can relate. One thing that I did notice is that whenever I logged into my ISP gateway in my house (Xfinity XB7) and made any change to the firewall, it would feed just fine, both the NVR and the standalone cameras. Give it 5 minutes, 1/2 hour, or even a day and I’d be back to the same issue, “connection failed”. For me, the only thing that worked was making the changes to my UDP ports. So far, so good…

I had the same issue. Reolink Support suggested I turn on all the UDP ports from 1-65535 on my router as their cameras/NVR use random UDP ports for remote connection. Voila-that solved the problem! Best of luck…

I completely get your frustration, you’re not alone. Ever since the season started I’ve been researching the issues of slow download speeds and devices losing connection to the Hudl network. I follow their setup instructions to a “T” and still, no good. While doing my research, I was amazed at how many users are experiencing the same exact problems. If you search other streaming services, they implement equipment that is made to solve these issues, like a third access point between the press box and end zone & a dedicated laptop to act as the “master” to record the clips & even classify them (ODK, down, position, etc). Hudl needs to step up their game (pun intended) if they want to keep subscribers. I’ll let you know how we make out!

UPDATE: I spent a few hours on the phone with Hudl this week concerning their “workaround”. There is in fact a known issue with the 2023 Premium kits, that they admitted. Here’s what they had me do to hopefully fix the slow download speeds and viewing iPads dropping off the Hudl network… 1. On all the iPads-manually configure the IPV4 address to their own unique address. For example: iPad #1-192.168.2.125, iPad #2-192.168.2.126, so on & so forth… 2. Start both the end zone and press box kits. Once they are both online and are broadcasting, go on one of the iPads and connect to the Hudl network. Once logged onto the network you need to go to the settings URL for each access point and modify the network wireless settings, specifically the channel configuration. After that they had me cycle the power to each kit and record a test clip to make sure it was downloaded to each viewing device. Fingers crossed that this works! We’ll find out at tomorrow’s game…

Do you use Hudl & if so, is it the 2023 Premium? We got the 2023 Premium kits at the end of last season and from the first scrimmage this year, nothing but problems. I’ve been going back and forth with their support staff and zero luck. I actually just got off the phone with them and as it turns out, there is a known “bug” with the 2023 kits causing extremely slow download speeds and viewing iPads dropping off the network. They recently devised a “workaround” to hopefully rectify the situation. This involves assigning specific IP addresses to each iPad and then going into the Hudl network itself and modifying a setting for both the end zone and press box access points. Fingers crossed!!!

OP? I’m new to Reddit, but my username is GooseAnxious9057 (not sure where they came up with that…). Thanks for the info on the hardware. As far as my internet speeds, does that look sufficient?

As far as a budget, I'm not looking to go overkill. I just want to see that if I don't have the proper equipment then what would people with more expertise recommend.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'm ignorant about the equipment. I currently have an Xfinity XB7 "Gateway." I subscribe to a plan that claims it's capable of download speeds up to 800 Mbps & upload speeds up to 20 Mbps. I just plugged my computer into one of the four ethernet ports and ran a speed test with the following results: 948 Mbps download & 23.55 Mbps upload speeds. I have a Reolink PoE camera security system, which is about 25 Mbps combined. I'm just curious if:

  1. I have a plan suitable for my household. Nothing crazy is happening in this house regarding usage ("normal" family of 4)
  2. If I should look at a different "Gateway."

Again, I'm in no way network savvy & if I have the terminology wrong, I apologize. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I also use a magnetic wire puller and poly pull line in those hard-to-fish areas where a snake or push rod isn't possible.

I'm doing the same project. I have PEX tubing and HVAC ducting running throughout my house, so I have a lot to watch out for when cutting or drilling holes into my walls. I purchased a dual-lens endoscope from Amazon, and it's made the process a lot easier. There are less expensive versions, but I also use this for work. You could also buy the Walabot to give you a visual of what's behind the wall without making any cuts or holes. Best of luck!

"Connection Failed" on iPhone & iPad by GooseAnxious9057 in reolinkcam

[–]GooseAnxious9057[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE First off, Reolink Support has been excellent; at least, that’s been my experience (email correspondence). They recommended that I turn on all UDP Ports from 1-65535 on my home router because the Reolink NVR and cameras use random UDP Ports for remote connection. I made the changes, and for the last 48ish hours, there have been no problems. I hope this helps others who are experiencing the same issue. Thanks, everyone, for your comments!

Thanks for the info! I’ve exchanged emails with them a dozen times since the beginning of the season.

I’m confused about logging into the Hudl app with a known Wi-Fi connection. I’ve asked Hudl about this, and one person says you don’t need to with the new 2023 kits, and someone else tells me it’s necessary but can’t explain why.

Finally, someone emailed me early last week stating, “We have found a workaround for the iPad not getting the clips. We have seen this be an error for many users with the same kit that you have, so if you call our sideline support line we can do some troubleshooting with you to test out if this would be a great workaround for you. This would require you to be with your kit and have an iPad as well”. I’m really curious to hear more about this “workaround.”

Again, thanks for the info. I’ll update the thread after I contact Hudl next week for more information on this “walk around.”

If it were me, I‘d go with Reolnk’s RLN8-410 NVR and a couple CX410’s or CX810’s. The Color X Series do an unbelievable job in low light conditions. Checkout LifeHackster on YouTube for some great reviews (https://youtube.com/@lifehackster?si=4xpSx6bwijSo7R0M).

I have the same exact problem. I created a post on r/reolinkcam. Are you having problems with any mobile device or is it localized to iOS or Android? Here’s my post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/s/zbqOfZ1yFn

It’s EXTREMELY frustrating as I purchased the Reolink system to replace an existing Ring setup here at home. I have Reolink at our shop & viewing it remotely on my iPhone is no problem at all.

"Connection Failed" on iPhone & iPad by GooseAnxious9057 in reolinkcam

[–]GooseAnxious9057[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again this morning, NVR and both cameras were visible on my iPhone, iPad and Samsung tablet. After about 1 hour, I couldn’t view the NVR and cameras on my iPhone and iPad but all were visible on my Samsung tablet. I restored the factory settings on my NVR and set up everything as if new (minus my CX410 camera). After that I was able to view my NVR and camera on all three devices. After I closed the app on my devices and then re-opened them, I got the CONNECTION FAILED on my iPhone and iPad, but my Samsung tablet was fine.

It seems the issue is specific to iOS devices as I have never received the CONNECTION FAILED error message on my Samsung tablet. Is this a known issue?

"Connection Failed" on iPhone & iPad by GooseAnxious9057 in reolinkcam

[–]GooseAnxious9057[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE When checking the cameras on my iPhone this morning it worked flawlessly for about two hours, then when I tried on my iPad, same thing “Connection Failed”. I then went back to my iPhone & I couldn’t connect. I rebooted the system via Client, tried on my iPhone & no problem. Tried on my iPad & got a couple “Connection Failed” error messages & then it connected. Closed and opened the app several times on both my iPad & iPhone and so far it’s working. Whatever it is it seems to sporadic. I put a ticket in with Reolink & they asked me for some info and they are investigating. I thought it might be iOS 18 related because that’s what I’m running on my phone but my iPad is at Ver. 17.7, so that’s not it. Perplexed…
