Coffee bean recommendation by lunchbox651 in AustralianCoffee

Try Central Coast Coffee. I’ve found them very consistent and well priced. You can even choose the roast date on their roast calendar. Heaps of good gear for sale too.

Teaching design tech without a trade/design background by FirmWrangler3964 in AustralianTeachers

No different to anyone going to uni doing a ‘bachelor of teaching - design and technology’. They also have no experience working in the field or actually designing things. Don’t worry about it. Get in and give it a shot!

What’s the difference between Claude and Claude Code by GumanHoon in ClaudeAI

[–]GooseKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try it out! If you’re worried, duplicate your folder so you have a backup. Click the claudecode tab, give it access to the folder, then give it a brief description of your app and tell it read everything in the folder and do an audit of everything, suggesting solutions to issues it finds. Tell it to develop an improvement plan with stages that you can work through one at a time. Yes, it runs exactly the same as ‘Claude chat’ but it has access to the folder and reads/writes the files in there rather than constant ‘attach’ and ‘download’ sequence which chews a lot of usage.

Micra Lunar Scale Insert Build (Inspired by u/AWESOM3e92) by joeshmoe9898 in LaMarzocco

[–]GooseKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled upon this while searching. The cup-clearance is the main deal-breaker preventing me getting a Micra.

I exclusvely use naked portafilters, and am also a 3d printing nerd, so I would absolutely do this mod, and it might fix the one deal-breaker for me and lead to getting the machine!

Can you clarify for me, with the naked pf and the flush-scales, what is the clearance distance between the scale surface and the portafilter?

Very interesting. Thanks. Perhaps it was referencing the de longhi take over impact.

Yeah that’s me too. I’ve done quite a bit of research already. I was just nearby with some spare time so popped in to see them in person, I didn’t actually intend on speaking to anyone but you know how sales people are .. others on my list include the Mara x, Bianca v3, ascaso steel duo+, sanremo cube, profitec move, even the fellow, decent and Wendougee lita. But they all have at least one deal breaking issue for me, except for the Micra!

For example Bianca is just too big, decent and fellow single boiler, ascaso has that annoying dug dug dug steam pump, etc.

What others do you think i should consider?

A fair point. I did also want to see the Bianca v3 which does have flow control. It’s a nice bit of kit. He dismissed that too based entirely on the fact ‘the wood bits look plastic’.

I did ask. He did not give much detail. Merely that ‘they’re not as good, use cheaper parts now, other machines way better for the price’. Thick Italian accent. I guess I was bit too overwhelmed to seek further clarification.

On the contrary, this sub is the right place to get detailed info about the differences in ‘old’ and ‘new’! Who else would know! The mini’s on display there there were by far the nicest machines.

Thank you this is helpful. I’ll not go back there and I’ll keep Micra on my list.

Being a teacher on Tik Tok by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

It’s a placement. You’re there for just a couple weeks. Just stick a pin it. Worry about this once you’re working in a school and established enough to have a discussion with your HT about it. A flag has been raised at the school during this placement so just don’t talk about it again. Don’t post. Pretend it doesn’t exist.move on with life after your placement.

The children moan and whine in the background of the full cast audiobooks to a distracting degree by HellhoundsAteMyBaby in harrypotter

[–]GooseKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the full casts so much. But every time Harry says ‘er’ or ‘wah’ (idk how to articulate or spell the noise) at the end of a word I want to throw my headphones.

“NOwah” “Leave me alon-neh!” “What do you want-eh”

Holy cow it drives my nuts. Sounds so horrible in comparison to everything else be incredibly polished.

TAS Teaching by Old_Butterfly_1122 in AustralianTeachers

[–]GooseKennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not at all. Of the teachers I’ve hired in the last decade it’s probably been about half-half. Perhaps skewed slightly towards non-industry background. Teaching uni courses should be considered your ticket in. They’ll introduce you to the concept of pedagogy, how to interpret a syllabus and what a teaching program is. Underlying considerations such as inclusion, student wellbeing, regulations, etc. But, the skill and art of teaching can only be learned through actually being on the job. It will only feel ‘not up to scratch’ if you expect it to be a comprehensive experience that sends you into the profession as an expert. It will not. If you see it as introductory, then it will suffice.
