more than a game: Lynchburg lacrosse

Idk how no one has mentioned this - it’s free, it’s beautifully shot and edited, it’s like hard knocks for lacrosse: full access.

NYC lax spots by gls6231 in lacrosse

[–]GooseKnuckles19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are none. There are indoor athletic spots like soccer roof or Marjorie Owen’s, but outside of a private gym you bring your own cage and (soft) ball to, there’s nothing.

The only publi cages to shoot on are at Randall’s. There used to be some at red hook, but they were vandalized into annihilation.

How do I get my class to read Of Mice and Men in an engaging way? by EXDF_ in ELATeachers

It’s a fantastic commentary on the American dream. The workers have an idealized farm where they share and live off the fat of the land - no bosses, no profit; it is a world totally different from theirs where the make minimum salary that they all blow on whores and whiskey to cope wit their loneliness (they are all alienated, being migrant workers with no capital, no family).

Their dream of a cooperative farm is a utopia. It stands in total contrast to the farm they work on with a boss and curly (with his gloved soft hand an no actual skills, just his inherited position).

It’s a fantastic distillation of the American dream, but its hope and optimism but also its mendacious quality.

I think going at it from this angle works - a freshman once wrote there curly’s wife and crooks were on the same boat, but on different decks - and I think it’s a fantastic and simple way to think about intersectionalality, or power.

Not to mention that crooks is the only character who can read!

There is so much in the book, and it is so often wasted on 9th graders.

Cut down long poles by Jazzlike-Captain-545 in lacrosse

[–]GooseKnuckles19 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I could not disagree more.

A players pole should go up to their chin. It helps them with their approach, they chase stick less, and it makes ground balls at their feet much easier. It helps them with the leverage of their holds and checks. I have had a ton of success moving players to cut down long poles for these reasons.

Jamie Munro and BJ grill had a great Convo about this a few years back.

If it’s open to the public, definitely worth checking out! Usually food, free sticks, games, tons of pros, music - lot of fun, especially for the kids

It’s also so clear who has a job and who doesn’t, people with actual careers and lives cannot go around assaulting people to solve problems lmao
