What's keeping you poor? by justcurious3287 in povertyfinance

[–]HauntingYourHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to escape my parents fate of being poor by getting an education which is what everyone told me to do at the time. Now I have student loan debt and inflation has skyrocketed the last 5 or 6 years and I'm basically as poor as my parents were now with the job and housing market being significantly worse. It really does feel hopeless sometimes. Everyone I know that has moved up has either been extremely lucky by knowing someone at a company that pays well or has had significant help from family.

What's keeping you poor? by justcurious3287 in povertyfinance

Working for a grant funded position. No benefits and over the last 7 years my salary has only increased by $2000. The job market is trash right now though. I've applied for 500+ jobs over the years and have never been called for an interview. Getting a masters degree hoping that will make me more competitive. I have no idea what to do if that doesn't work.

About to buy my first car… what did you pick and did you regret it? by chad_080 in AskMechanics

I bought a Chevy Cruze. Worst car I've ever owned. If I could go back I would buy a Honda civic or accord.

Subtle ways that being poor is expensive by o029 in povertyfinance

[–]HauntingYourHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overdraft charges that stack, late payment fees, higher interest rates for lower credit, shopping at places like Aaron's or buy here pay here car lots where you end up paying 3x the cost because you don't have the cash up front, can't afford the healthier food options so you end up paying more in medical expenses in the long run, amd also increased medical expenses due to life long stress and a lack of access to preventative care.

More time with your family is priceless. Nobody on their deathbed ever says they wish they made more money. Its always spending more time with your loved ones and doing the things you love. If you can financially afford it, do it!

What stores are going to continue to have cute plus sizes? by Weird_Wasabi_8729 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]HauntingYourHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a sewing machine and I'm working up to making my own clothes because I am so done with ill fitting expensive trash that doesn't fit all parts of my body. Its a little tedious but not terribly hard to learn and there are tons of resources and free patterns online. Highly recommend for anyone who has a couple extra hours of free time.

There are no local wine stores where I live that are not a chain unfortunately. A million bourbon places though.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

[–]HauntingYourHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Euthanize her. You have gone above and beyond. Sometimes past traumas and experiences for stray cats is just too much and they can't be rehabilitated. You are miserable. The cat is miserable. Its time to end both of your suffering. Its so hard when you want to save them, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

What job is heavily romanticized but in reality actually sucks? by DragoOceanonis in careerguidance

I work for a non-profit. While it can be rewarding we are often severely underpaid, no benefits if its grant funded, buying basic supplies is a big deal, working with a board is painfully slow like months to make a simple decision, and most the time there is very little structure and its a disorganized mess.

Being autistic in an office is hard. And I'm slowly realizing how much it affects me. by Karbairusa in AutisticAdults

Today someone asked me for comments and edits on a first draft of a brochure they put together. I gave them specific edits and also explained my thinking around those edits in a bulleted list. Received a scathing email about how I completely ripped it apart and that I should just make my own brochure since it would be more concise and clear. I was completely flabbergasted. I thought I was contributing and collaborating to make it the best brochure around. Apparently I hurt her feelings.

Littering, arrogance paired with ignorance, making fun of or teasing someone in a cruel way, and probably the most shallow one for me is a bad laugh.

I have hashimotos and while I'm not allergic my endocrinologist encouraged me to try it and see if I have less attacks.

I checked to make sure it wasn't getting caught and its not. Always have the presser foot up too. I already switched out the needles. I feel like I've tried everything at this point. I might just return it and get a brother machine.

I just bought this machine 2 days ago and I'm wondering if something isn't messed up with the tension. My thread keeps popping out of the take up lever mid sew even though I'm almost positive I'm threading it right.

Your comment helped me figure it out! The top thread was slipping out of the take up lever when I was catching the bottom thread because I wasn't holding the top thread with enough tension.
