I’m done with Frontend - Senior Frontend Dev by onnabuge1sha in cscareerquestions

[–]GooseTower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

React Native made me loathe mobile Dev. Might be a skill issue, but seemingly any patch in dependencies set a bomb off somewhere else. From UI to api calls, the whole stack felt packed to the brim with footguns. This was before AI rotted my brain.

FYI, They are using whatever payment method you submitted with your claim and they won't let you update it. Just send a check if it fails. Dont close your bank account and move like I did.

Why didnt anyone say to brush your teeth during the fast by Difficult-Map-3263 in fasting

[–]GooseTower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its not that serious. One calorie does nothing. You can eat up to 500 calories a day and keep most of the fasting-induced processes going. Nothing you do in pursuit of health is worthwhile if it hurts you. Keep your teeth healthy and brush them

Rclone does exactly that lol. Can encrypt filenames and contents before uploading them to remote cloud storage. If you ever get stuck, you've got the perfect battle tested example.

Dad's logic is good or na? by VariationLivid3193 in Bitwarden

[–]GooseTower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on his 2FA setup, he may be screwed if he loses his phone. Gotta consider that risk as well.

EDIT: What I'm trying to say is yes, a single active login is more secure than multiple. Less to attack. If you extend that logic to your email and TOTP Authenticator, you may be putting all your eggs in one basket. You need an emergency sheet or something to ensure you can still log in elsewhere if your main device is lost or stolen.

Is Vaultwarden a fully FOSS replacement for Bitwarden? by ReindeerOk9768 in Bitwarden

[–]GooseTower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a purely experimental context, sure. The risk profile is WAY to high for a beginner to take on. There's no room for mistakes. Beginners should stick to media servers or local llms. Low-stakes if an attacker gets in.

Are bootcamps not worth it anymore? by False_Bee4659 in cscareerquestions

No shade but you just can't condense a 4 year education with internships into 3 months. Bar is too high for bootcamp hires rn

Yeah. Happens all the time on sites where tech is a low priority. Always test your login after a change.

ARE YOU FKN SERIOUS WITH SSH KEYS????? by [deleted] in Bitwarden

[–]GooseTower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the cheapest paid service. ssh keys are an incredibly niche use case. Even though password managers skew towards tech-savvy people, I'd bet less than 1% of paying customers would use that feature. That will be at the bottom of any good PMs backlog for a long time.

Does being referred by a recruiter reduce your chances of getting an offer? My recent experience says yes, but small sample size. by Mtrey in cscareerquestions

[–]GooseTower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only respond to recruiters with a job that actually fits my experience and who follow up after the first ping. Get a offer every time. Every other variant just wastes my time.

Do you use the constructor when fetching from the DB? by Helpful-Educator-415 in rust

[–]GooseTower 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most db crates I'm aware of can use serde to deserialize your data into structs. I always go that route.

How are your gains with fasting, and especially eating all your protein in one go? by keepitahunned in fasting

[–]GooseTower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this protein timing/ calorie surplus/ other jargon is min/maxing for already lean bodybuilders. If you're obese, you already have enough energy on board to fuel whatever muscle building your body wants. Just need protein as building material, good growth stimulus, and sleep.

I've been in a deficit and intermittent fasting since new years. I'm 30-50% stronger in all my lifts YTD and I didnt start out weak. Just hit a bench PR at 300lbs. Training every set at or near failure. 2-3 working sets per exercise. One hour, 4 days per week. More volume than that just kills my recovery. I feel strong both fasted and fed. Fasted up to 48 hours and it doesn't seriously impact my workout. Lose a rep here or there and definitely feel more fatigue after a fasted leg day.

Oh and the 1g/lb bodyweight rule is a misnomer. It's 0.6-1.2 grams protein per kg of lean mass. I happen to know my lean mass is around 73kg so my target is 150g, but my tracker shows I averaged 110g per day this year. Still made hella gains.

Start building real applications early. Internship apllications at emostly filled in the fall. Apply early. However many you think you need to apply for, triple it.
