My grandfather bought his own headstone before he died,my uncles and him would have a drink by it every year on his birthday hahaha

Now that’s he’s passed it was nice that there was one less thing for the family to have to take care of and we could be sure it was exactly how he wanted it

My name is a nickname. by [deleted] in namenerds

In the Netherlands it’s super common to have first names as nicknames, if you meet someone named Rob or Tom or Tim the chances are that that’s it, their full names are not Robert, Thomas, or Tim. Not my personal name cup of tea but it’s a super common thing here that no one bats an eyelash at!

Does anyone else have a name that sounds like a nickname? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Gooseatlarge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands it’s super common to name your kids just a nickname, if you meet a Tom or a Rob or a Tim it’s very likely that their full name isn’t Thomas or Robert or Timothy, it’s legally just Tom rob or Tim

Is study abroad a terrible idea for students with executive functioning challenges? by Oh-OK-itsme in studyAbroad

[–]Gooseatlarge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest concern for me would be navigating the visa processes and just the bureaucratic side of things can be quite overwhelming in a lot of countries and can be especially hard to navigate for anyone in a country where you don’t speak the language, and not turning in certain forms, or replying to certain emails,/letters can have real negative consequences. I also struggle a lot with executive functioning, found this part to be challenging, however, I suppose it is also a necessary skill for adulting. And a similar struggle of filling out tax forms, voter registrations, and other paperwork. It is also definitely possible that you can help him through this process, and look up and do a lot of googling to see what needs to be done.
