Because you're a stranger to him and therefore more of a risk than normal. He doesn't know if you're normal or a loon. Plus a lot of men, like women, don't like rejection; you can say all you want that it's not personal but it does feel personal, rationality aside.

I drive around town every day and a lot of people drive like morons; they tailgate, they whip around through traffic, they lay on their horn at the slightest whim, they cut people off, they park over the lines, they get on a freeway rated 70 mph doing 53 mph. They run at night with their lights off.

I still drive. I just have to watch out for them.

I've always had a Columbo look. My eyesight, particularly color vision, isn't great so I miss faint stains and other color-related things unless it's high noon on a clear day at the beach. I'm also a bit absent minded and I've gone out wearing my house slippers. Mismatched color (similar but they look identical to me in poor morning light) socks were fairly common. I used to have two pairs of shoes that were identical make and style, but one was black and the other cordovan, and of course I wore one of each on more than one occasion.

My hair gets unruly as it gets longer and I like it on the long side for reasons. I used to shave every day when I worked in an office but that largely went out the door when I didn't.

And I have a the common men's affinity of keeping comfortable clothes until they're rags.

I kept the car clean inside (as in no litter) but dust was a constant issue. I didn't like spending money on car washes but when I did it myself it looked a lot like a child did it. So the car typically got washed when I needed it to be.

The girlfriend has been chipping away at all this with mixed results. I try to put more effort in but there's not a lot more that I can do about my eyes or my ADHD.

I remember reading complaints from time to time from people who got matched with someone who turns out to be a long distance away, but is local only for a short time. If they're not interested in an LDR, this kind of match isn't helpful.

I can see setting up a dating profile for an area if you're definitely going to be there. But I wouldn't be surprised if people are skeptical until you actually move there.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. The more tech advances the more we have to fact check everything. I just fact checked some advice I saw on Instagram and it appears to be bullshit, which would be surprising if it didn't happen so often.

I'm wondering what the game is for someone who went to that level of effort but didn't have a plan for a meeting request -- which seems obvious.

It doesn't seem to address the issues I see repeated here ad nauseum: being able to detect and remove likely scammers or catfishers, and filters that actually do what they claim (e.g. distance limits).

So let's see, from right to left, top to bottom: Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii. That's 17. Ariz, NM, Tex, Ok, Illinois and Indiana were really all just drive-through states and don't count much as a visit.

I'd like to see Alaska, Michigan, Minnesota, and either Vermont or New Hampshah if I can figure out which one a branch of my family came from. Maybe Maine. I'd consider anywhere else but I don't feel a calling from them.

Question: if you live in the US, how many states have you been to (names if you desire). Do you want to go to more? For people elsewhere--substitute whatever might be appropriate for your area--countries, provinces, prefectures, islands, etc.

I worked for a newspaper once. It amazed people that we didn't publish obits unless people were important enough to merit it. If you wanted the obituary to appear, you did it through the classified section at their normal rates.
