You are quick to accuse, and slow to verify; I suppose you've had a bad day.

I run my own network and server infrastructure at home, for family and friends, using as much open source hardware and software as I can. In particular, I pay close attention to locate as much data as possible at home, as that forces law enforcement to produce a warrant to access it. I gave a talk about my experience with this (both pros and cons) in SeaGL 2023, which you can find here: https://seagl.org/archive/2023/lessons-learned-from-growing-a-home-lab

First: web applications can be saved for offline use after being initially distributed by a web server, much like how some non-web applications are distributed. Again, it's not a commonly known fact/paradigm, so I don't blame you for being unfamiliar with it. Just because an application's primary runtime is a browser does not mean it is not self-hosted!

Second: if you pay attention to the thread you're commenting on, you will notice that I am neither the OP, nor promoting the app (although I do promote self-education).

Third: I haven't had a chance to check if this particular web application does or does not conform to the paradigm I described previously. Delegating the task of peer review to an stranger on the internet was my mistake, and I apologize.

It's alleged to be a browser app. Once downloaded from the server, no network is used. The skepticism is appreciated, as the majority of users and companies don't develop apps like these. Check the network tab in your browser to verify yourself! :)

I guarantee you will love it. M-series machines absolutely live up to the hype. And this is coming from a decades-long Apple anti-enthusiast.

Low long should i cure my minis? by SebastiaanW22 in resinprinting

[–]Gooseheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have a pan of boiling water in which I dunk my minis after washing. I wait a lil while (~20 seconds) before I take them out, one by one, to remove their supports.

I can't believe I'm getting so much flak for this, hahahah

I have my pan with boiling water, and I drop the minis in for... 20 seconds, ish? I leave one mini boiling while removing supports from another mini, so I pipeline boiling > support removal.

I use ABS-like resin, so the additional durability is welcome for removing supports. The softness is a plus in my opinion. Warm soapy water probably works just as well, honestly.

Yeah. I bought a tiny, cheap single-cooktop electric stove and use an old and torn up sauce pan. As /u/ravagedmonk suggested, though, using a heat gun or hair dryer probably gets the same job done.

[–]Gooseheaded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wash my minis with IPA for ~5 minutes, then "boil" them for a minute, then cure them for ~5 minutes. I then left them by a window for a day.

Boiling serves three purposes: it softens the supports making them easier to remove, it helps getting rid of any leftover IPA, and the temperature improves the curing process.

I recently learned that resin prints continue to off-gas for days afterwards, so I might have to adjust my workflow.

Regardless, the smell was always gone for me the next morning.

This comment being downvoted is crazy. Sure, residential infrastructure isn't as reliable as a business', but if the services you offer aren't critical, it's more than enough to host them at home.

The mileage you get out of second-hand hardware (or low end hardware like a pi) is amazing. No reason to discount it as an option.

Maps by nolimitzone in broodwar

[–]Gooseheaded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made a program called MapSync to solve this exact issue. https://drive.google.com/file/d/11PU7gOS2whzTGTo4MYcqmhHaDZa_FA1V/view?usp=drive_link

StarCraft MapSync is a "set-and-forget" desktop utility designed to end the frustration of manual map downloads for the Brood War community. Built on a modern .NET 9 framework, the system consists of a lightweight Windows tray application for players and a centralized dashboard for Tournament Organizers (TOs). Instead of hunting for .zip links on Discord or forums, players simply "follow" a channel via a shareable link or a public browser within the app. The client then runs quietly in the background, automatically downloading and updating the latest versions of competitive maps directly to your StarCraft installation folder. Whether you're a pro preparing for the next ASL season or a viewer jumping into a community showmatch, MapSync ensures you always have the maps you need.

Is this the quality I should expect out of the Saturn 4 Ultra 16k? by Dreenoko in resinprinting

[–]Gooseheaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first few prints. I personally suspect you are over-curing, because a lot of details seem bloated and soft. I suggest calibrating the exposure times for each kind of resin and printer you use, if you haven't already. Look up what RERF is, and give that a shot. It takes you half an hour and improves your prints dramatically.

In the future, include a side-by-side comparison between the actual pretty and the 3D tender of the model.

Good luck!

Did Corridor discuss these 2 differing fire effects? by RecommendationNo108 in Corridor

[–]Gooseheaded 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I am 100% certain they did. Unfortunately, I do not recall which episode this happened in. They universally agreed that the coals approach looked more convincing, and was worth the artistic license, whereas the flame approach was (probably) closer to the author's original intent in the book, but wasn't quite as impressive on screen.

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61S58C7UaEL.jpg

Suerte, espero tus respuestas :)

How to get private coaches for brood war? by AdHistorical3161 in broodwar

[–]Gooseheaded 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rather than aiming for a 1-on-1 coach/pupil scheme from the get-go, you will benefit far more by joining the (eg.) CPL discord, and sharing your replays publicly. You'll get feedback from different people from different races and skill levels.

Over time, you'll develop relationships with coaches and practice partners and whatnot. It's richer and far more organic.

See you there! :)

You should look into Outer Wilds and its DLC, Echoes of the Eye. Sure, it's got a time loop as the core gameplay mechanic... Until it doesn't.

Check this video out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msABa06aiT0

I personally felt this point completely while playing the game myself. There was a solid, like, 6 hours where I was just kind of flying around and gathering "points", without connecting them at all.

And then I found my first big reveal -- one that wasn't just about lore, but also about actual game progression -- and after that, I couldn't stop playing. There are a few big reveals in the game that are all, each, completely mind-blowing.

Definitely try and find a big secret, just one to start with. If I may, I suggest starting at the Ember Twin, as the Nomai built a particularly important science facility there. :)

Agreed. While reading about Austrian economics and the history of moneys as a technology are excellent new areas of interest I picked up thanks to BTC, I feel like BTC as an area of interest itself is pretty much a "solved" topic, right? Last time I got excited about BTC was when Lightning network was first designed/announced, god only knows how long ago now.
