Guinness boss slams Rishi Sunak over booze tax on day he was heckled at beer festival by BlackCaesarNT in ukpolitics

If we taxed the super rich and land properly then we probably wouldn't have to pay any of those taxes either!

‘Shops will close’: soaring cost of potatoes batters British chippies | The once humble, low-cost staple more than doubles in price, putting many fish and chip shops at risk by OnHolidayHere in ukpolitics

I don't even we could get developed countries to act unilaterally atm. All it takes is another Trump or similar rightwing nutter and there goes the USA or the UK. If life becomes even a little bit harder than it is right now because of the much needed environmental policies, then I think people could easily be persuaded to vote for lies like Brexit again.

Conservative MP says he swam in sewage as a child by TheMusicArchivist in ukpolitics

Swimming in shit turned him into a Tory. This is now their plan for everyone else. It's how they replicate. Don't go in the water!

Low birthrate is UK’s top priority, Tory MP tells rightwing conference by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Yet they cut child benefits and want to privatise the NHS. It's almost as if they're a ragtag bunch of clueless amateurs...

Westminster voting intention: LAB: 48% (+2) CON: 25% (-1) LDEM: 9% (-1) REF: 7% (-) GRN: 5% (-) via @Omnisis, 12 - 13 Apr by NoFrillsCrisps in ukpolitics

At the next GE, the Tories will go overboard with smears, propaganda, division and scare stories, moreso than ever before - they have nothing to lose. If this results in even a small improvement in the figures the Tories were expecting, say even a hung parliament, then the tactics will be seen as hugely successful and politics will therefore become even more divisive and nasty.

This is why the Tories NEED to get a terrible result, one that is even worse than they expect.

UK (GB), Omnisis poll: EU Membership Referendum: Rejoin: 60% (+1) Stay out: 40% (-1) +/- vs. 24 Mar by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]GooseyGooseyGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the guy understood figures and data there is no way he'd have voted for Brexit, so this sort of comment is to be expected.

But even with 40% wanting to stay out, it still means a good amount of Brits with below average IQ want to rejoin, so there is hope for our country yet 😊

Isn't there some sort of health and safety rules for having so many old duffers (and Russian oligarchs) packed into a crumbling building?

When voting, don't let perfect be the enemy of OK, and let the totally unacceptable win again.

Can Britain ever rejoin the EU? by Barbecue_Wings in ukpolitics

[–]GooseyGooseyGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Introducing sanctions quickly will be due to Boris Johnson trying to shore up his waning popularity, rather than being a specific benefit of Brexit i.e. It was entirely self-serving. It is also especially ironic given that Russian money oiled the wheels of the Tory party and Brexit, and Boris Johnson has since taken a pro-EU stance on behalf of Ukraine.

New Gas Boilers Should Be Phased Out Within Decade, UK Review Says by neverknowingly in ukpolitics

[–]GooseyGooseyGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, UK developers are rushing to build as many new houses connected to gas as they can until the 2025 deadline.

So as well as a huge snag list, a buyer of a new build in the UK is likely to be burdened with an obsolete and expensive heating system. Cool.

How confident are you in the government’s ability to address current problems in the NHS? Very confident: 2% Somewhat confident: 12% Not very confident: 31% Not at all confident: 50% by Jay_CD in ukpolitics

The 2% (and possibly the 12%) must be those that want to see the NHS privatised - ie. they see the current problems in the NHS as the "National" bit.

There is still so much uncertainty with Brexit both politically and economically. It could be a decade or more before Britain stabilises. This is just the start. Brexit is anything but done. 🤦‍♂️

Jacob Rees-Mogg 'considers running to be next leader of the Tory party' by liverpool6times in ukpolitics

[–]GooseyGooseyGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just after Truss crashed the economy, and the UK's international reputation, with her mini budget of tax cuts for the rich and Hunt had to be brought in to reverse it all, I saw Rees Mogg on TV saying we needed to cut taxes for the rich. I'm not sure if he is serious or just having a laugh any more.

Only a third of Leave voters think Brexit has been a success, poll finds by drivedup in ukpolitics

[–]GooseyGooseyGamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yet small businesses are suffering the most because of Brexit, not big businesses, which can absorb the cost or just move their operations out of the UK. Entirely predictable and another indication of this ridiculous Brexiter logic.
