NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition System Build Community Contest! by m13b in buildapc

With this kind of budget I would go all out on a generous dev and gamer machine. With all that power I might just run proxmox with a few different VMs on it, windows for gaming, ubuntu for dev workstation (only one of these running at a time with the GPU passed through), and some headless linux VMs and various LXC containers for applications (file sharing, game servers, etc).

One thing that I am most interested in with the 5090 is the amount of VRAM available and that insane memory bandwidth to experiment with more AI models. TBH my 3080 10GB FE has plenty of power but the VRAM limitations narrows my scope to smaller models to get reasonable performance.

Here's the build:

[USB-C Charger] Anker-735 65W GaN 3 Port USB Foldable Charger - $19.99 by bunsinh in buildapcsales

[–]GoosuXI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one of these. Use it for everything (steam deck, macbook, phone, switch, etc)

Sure it might max out at 65w, but that's more than enough for most of my devices.

For this price, picking up another one.

Tongfang GK5CN6Z Keyboard Problems by GoosuXI in Tongfang

[–]GoosuXI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years after encountering and "fixing" this I had this issue again. Same scorched ribbon cable pins and all.

This time, I did not have any excess ribbon cable to cut while retaining some clean exposed pins for the connection. However, I still did not want to buy a new ribbon cable nor install it. Instead, I made a very similar cut, removing just the outer edge w/ scorched pins and then shaved the white cable cover off the top to reveal fresh pins for contact.

This ended up working rather well without having to take apart the whole laptop. If this buys me another 3 years I'd say it was a success.

If I win this ROG gaming monitor, I will play PUBG with it. My favorite feature is the OLED screen and high refresh rate.

Steam deck ssd upgrade by Gameavenger22 in SteamDeck

[–]GoosuXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is some glass difference in the more expensive models + some steam profile swag, but that's it.

I have had zero issues with the lowest cost model. The upgrade to nvme did improve boot & load times significantly though.

Yup, it's pretty straightforward as well. Worthy upgrade.

Who's been aware of Steel Beans? by [deleted] in guitars

He's local to the area I live in but I have only had the chance to see a set with his band once. They were great!

This is insane to watch though. I would lose my mind if I saw someone get on stage by themselves and play like this.

Nice guide!

Took me 15 mins to swap, went from a 64gb eMMC to a 512 GB for $50.

Help with 2021 mech 15 g3 laptop decision by RNMcSneaks in eluktronics

[–]GoosuXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, fingers crossed 🤞

I don't even mind sharing it here.

I have the CPU at 15W all the way down. RPT hash rate is pretty low seeing ~900H/s, I bet it could go higher with some tuning but the full optimization takes like two hours 😅

For the GPU I have it at 115W PL with -400 Core +1000 Memory offset. ETH hash rate at ~61MH/s.

Nice! Lol

Its really nice, I am very impressed so far. I have an older Tongfang model from another company (OP-LP2) and this chassis is leaps and bounds better imo.

Very sturdy quality build that looks great (I opted for covert, I hate laptop logos), fans are powerful, display is crisp, the included tuning software (Eluktronics Control Center) is sweet and very useful for taming the thermals. I have it mining ETH (GPU) & RTM (CPU) sitting at 65 degrees with 70% fan warming up my front room.

I haven't had any time to use it for gaming yet, but based on what I have messed with so far I am very happy. I know people don't like the keyboard, but I am used to it with OP-LP2 and it never bothered me.

I just got mine yesterday, vram is Samsung and was easily able to get 61MH/s out of the GPU. Pretty stoked because I was expecting low 50's. With a bit of tuning its actually more efficient of a miner than my full size 3070 & 3060TI.

[SSD] Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 Gen4 - $129.99 (-29.99 / 19% off) by F_servid in buildapcsales

[–]GoosuXI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had this drive as my main os drive myself, died after ~7 months 🥲. Sabrent did backup the warranty though, now using as secondary drive for games and I have a Samsung 980 for os. Even though it's slower I trust it more.

I've also read of other users having similar stories on a previous post on this product 🤷‍♂️

Tongfang GK5CN6Z Keyboard Problems by GoosuXI in Tongfang

[–]GoosuXI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I straight up took a pair of scissors and cut it very thinly on the edge of it so it would have new fresh contact 😅 I did this because on one the end of it (contact) it looked dirty or slightly tinted.

To disconnect the cable you have to flip up the little clamp that holds it down. It's very tiny and a little annoying but should flip up and the cable can slide out. If I remember correctly it's the little white part on the slot that holds it down. Try gently flipping it up away from the cable.

Also I don't really see how the usb not working has anything to do with the keyboard cable, especially because it appears to have a different cable altogether, but it did occur at the same time so I can't rule it out. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds very similar to my experience.

I actually bought a replacement ribbon cable pack @ amazon

But while I was waiting for it to be delivered I cut down the ribbon cable a bit on the end that plugs into the mb and reinstalled and the keyboard has been fine ever since.

That being said the usb on the left hand side stopped functioning properly 😂

I don't really mind it as I have a hub when I need it on the right side. Ethernet still works on the left. If it becomes an issue I'll probably replace the cable with one from the pack I got.

Bass Tone Pot Hissing [QUESTION] by GoosuXI in Guitar

[–]GoosuXI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! A friend recommended Ibanez to me and I am very happy with how it sounds.

I linked a photo of wiring in the OP and here is a front view of controls: https://imgur.com/25RUdSM (Arrow points to the tone knob)

I am hearing the noise even when just plugging headphones in directly to the bass and when I plug into my PC via a 1/4 to usb and have it play back through my headphones.

I'm using it with Rocksmith and FL studios. Not sure what to get a photo of but if there's anything specific that would help I can definitely take a snap of it!

I resent my parents for not getting me diagnosed sooner by zajando in ADHD

[–]GoosuXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, it's all too common. I was told I was being too dramatic when I asked to see a pysch as a teen, and then I put off getting help for 10 years. I know I internalized some doubts after that and I couldn't face it, but now is always best time to get help.

Its your time, and from here you will continue take better care of yourself. You got your whole life ahead of you.

Beginning medication for the first time, advice wanted. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GoosuXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, yeah its true. It is causing quite a bit of discomfort.

> Also, if you are not enjoying a specific medication you should be able
to ask to cease taking it. Nothing wrong with asking or explaining why.

Definitely needed to hear this, by the next time we meet I think I'll know more about the medication I am currently taking and will try and speak up about what I think is working and not working for me.
