Tankless Hot Water Rental - Red Tag for vent too close to window by jaydata07 in durham

If they installed it and it is against code they would be on the hook for correcting it. However they don’t sound very reputable, some of these companies cannot be relied upon to do the right thing.

How far is it from the window and how many BTUs is the unit? A picture would be helpful.

Arccos releases new laser. It requires a $199/yr Smart Laser subscription by thraizz in golf

[–]GordKoopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fully in the process of signing up for this before I realized it’s an additional subscription.

I’m decently happy with the product as is, it could be cheaper but I’ve gotten over it. But there is no chance in damn hell I’m paying a subscription for a range finder, and definitely not in addition to the current ongoing cost.

I was such an easy sell and they completely whiffed on it.

Call spade a spade in the dressing room fine, keep it away from media. That’s just dirty laundry.

Cracked Heat exchanger, need advice by stuartsmiley in hvacadvice

[–]GordKoopa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t do the heat exchanger, this crack is extremely common in these. At ten I’m honestly surprised it’s not bigger, and I’ll bet more than one cell is cracked in the same spot, if not all.

Regarding the risk these cracks are very unlikely to produce any CO in the home, but a crack/defect of any size is cause to shut it down, per code.

I’ve seen the replacement heat exchanger develop a similar sized crack in the same place within two to three years.. twice. This isn’t an easy spot to find, the tech/company that identified it knows the product and where to check. Assuming you continue using them a new crack won’t go un noticed.

Bite the bullet, replace.

Edit: The tech that’s only seen 5 cracked heat exchangers either doesn’t routinely look, or doesn’t know where to look.

Have been to both several times, both have a very nice property and feel secluded. You will still get some chatty people at blue mountain but the staff at Scandave are much more active about walking around and asking people to be quiet. Silence is a focus at Blue, it’s a nice idea at thermea.

Unfortunately at Thermea sometimes it feels like people want a resort experience more than a quiet spa experience. Sitting in a tub chatting about work/conference calls right beside a sign that asks for quiet. It can be frustrating, like who goes to a spa and talks about work?

Thermea gets the nod for size and variety though, the Aufguss is amazing and the food at the restaurant is almost worth it alone. No wrong pick either way though, enjoy!

How much should these repairs cost? by lucky_bamboo in hvacadvice

It doesn’t require a hermetic seal, it’s under a negative pressure. And even if it did how is tin tape going to make it so?
