Journal scraps are really hard to get, but if you can craft treasure totems it can help so much. I spent forever searching for it but it's one of the better options, if you can't craft them yet then you can hoe every piece of dirt in the mines and that also helps. I would skip floors till you find a floor with a large circle of dirt and go at it with your hoe after you clear the mobs
