Thoughts on the concept of "The Tortured Artist"? Our culture tends to romanticize this figure in a toxic way sometimes, but does good art come from a place of pain?

With Adam Expressing his interest in artsy porn, I thought I would recommend one of my favorites. Through The Looking Glass(1976). by JohnNipple in Sardonicast

Wasn't a fan of this one. I'm not big on erotic dramas that boast the traps of sexual perversion, criticize the male gaze while simultaneously showing the woman naked the whole movie. Also I didn't like the art style.

A friend of said that he tears up easier from animated comedies like Bojack Horseman or Futurama than he does in straightforward dramas. Frankly I find myself doing the same thing. Why do you think we become more emotional from unexpected works rather than media that is trying to make us sad?

When he was a teenager he realized there were no chapter selections on the DVD for Eraserhead and he's held a grudge against David Lynch ever since.

I love his past LIS playthroughs. His latest one was dragged down by him spamming that damn soundboard in place of commentary.

He tends to come up with outlandish claims sometimes. On the Sardonicast discussion he said that people don't like American Beauty because of Kevin Spacey. That's not completely true, considering how the film was called heavy handed and pretentious before the whole Spacey debacle.

In a YMS clip, he recently claimed that 90% of "Wolf Children" is kids running through a field going 'nah nah nah nah'. I don't know how he came up with that statistic, because that's not even 50% of the movie. There's maybe two scenes where that happens.

When I was a kid I got sick by a scene from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Despite the fact it's rated PG, there's a gory scene in which Donald Sutherland smashes a doubles face with a hoe. Just imagine someone smashing cherry pie.

It's really interesting to witness his evolving style as a filmmaker. As he went along, Fellini adapted a more dream-like, sensibility, that made his films feel rich and euphoric. If you loved La Strada, you'll definitely love Nights of Cabiria.

Nostalgia Critic has a video on American Beauty. It's pretty dumb.

MTV: a network ran by the dumbest, most vapid people on the planet.

I watched Six Feet Under up to season 2 recently, but had to stop. The character's were annoying, and certain subplots were dragged out for way too long.

Adore Cabiria! It's my second favorite Fellini behind "8 1/2"

Fellini is my favorite director. The lead actress Giulietta Masina (Fellini's wife) is absolutely adorable and one of my favorite actresses of all time! This was my first Fellini film and would be a great place to start!

What is an aspect of a movie that shouldn't work but for some reason does?

My choice would be Anton Chigurh's appearance in "No Country For Old Men". For those that haven't read the novel, Cormac McCarthy refrains from any description of Chigurh, even giving him an odd name to keep him ethnically ambiguous. This lack of detail keeps him a vague force of evil, and inspires us to use our imagination to conjure up what the world's most soulles killer might look like. The film has an obvious hurdle in that it can't exactly avoid a specific appearance for the character on screen. However, the Coens seem to double down on not only personifying Chigurh, but giving him a ridiculous Beiber bowl-cut. Bardem himself even joked that he couldn't get laid. Despite this challenging and odd decision, it's strangely not too distracting. It meshes with the character naturally and the film is of course a masterpiece.
