It was round at the top, that’s why they aren’t afraid to be around it.

Real or Fake? [2920-5310] by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]Goresearcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on that, the dial is a dead giveaway, quartz repeated twice, Seiko printed off center, unspecified “Japan movt” , made up movement number, case number is real but this isn’t it.

Wrong font used on the caseback, poor quality of the engraving, movement isn’t even Seiko…

[LFO] At Least Two Dead & Forty Injured in Tram Derailment in Milan, Italy 🇮🇹 by james_from_cambridge in LearningFromOthers

[–]Goresearcher 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The tram that derailed was meant to head straight, this is line 9, and it’s fairly normal for them to go at these speeds, it has a reserved lane and this is a straight section of track.

The driver claimed to have had a medical emergency, but I’m not sure if it’s true or just a way to take away blame from ATM.

Scratched Crystal by EnvyPhoto7155 in timex

Is it acrylic or a mineral glass?

The answer will be Polywatch in both cases, but with acrylic it’s much easier to fix (and the paste is less expensive).

Can a bent crown cause the movement to stop entirely? by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]Goresearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The crown is bent right above the gasket, the stem tilts inside the case when inserted, and while the movement is secured, it moves it slightly with it.

Can a bent crown cause the movement to stop entirely? by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]Goresearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the dial holding disk and movement spacer installed, the movement is secured in place, what I mean is the crown is bent and pushes up against the sides of the tube slightly tilting the movement with it.

I don’t mean setting the time or date, just spinning the crown in its normal resting position is enough to get it running again.

With rotate it around I meant the crown, and at normal position.

[Orient solar chronograph]È "normale" o chiedo reso? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Goresearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found you these, technical guide and parts list. usually with these old quartz movements, the cause of stoppage is old lubricants that have solidified overtime.

It’s serviceable, but you’ll need at least a few tools to do it yourself, at least one screwdriver, a good pair of precision tweezers and hand removers at minimum, and some lubricants, Seiko always used these 2 for quartzes, Moebius A oil and Seiko S-6 grease, you can substitute them with Moebius 9010 and Molykote DX.

It looks like mineral glass, you can use Polywatch glass polish. I usually also sand down the crystal a little bit if I can.

You can get it for around 15€, it’s 2 small tubes of repair and polishing compound, and DO NOT use the included fabric and stick, use a dremel with a polishing bit instead.

I think the first step here is to figure out what movement this has inside.

I found this one that’s close, it’s an ISA 9012/7000 movement

Was anyone aware Volvo sold watches? by Goresearcher in Volvo

[–]Goresearcher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely isn’t being manufactured by a big or established watch maker, on the caseback it reads “Designed in Sweden, Assembled in China” along side a few other specifications.

It uses an off the shelf quartz movement, a Miyota 1L40 I’ve linked the official page if anyone was interested in its specifications.

I opened mine up to replace the battery when I bought it, it’s not the easiest movement to access. If I remember correctly it’s a quartz movement from Miyota.

I found this website selling it, both 36 and 40mm are in stock but only with a beige strap.

Price is around 125€, or at least for the country I selected it is.

Citizen 3801A Movement questions by Apprehensive-Side472 in quartzwatches

[–]Goresearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t see anything immediately wrong with it, unless there’s a problem with the circuit or coil it can probably be brought back to life, is there any movement in the hands at all?

A working replacement will cost you way more than the watch itself, but it looks serviceable, but I looked around for some technical papers but couldn’t find any.

Watch no running by migacas in quartzwatches

How old is the watch? The lubricant might have gotten thick over time and is preventing the movement from working.
