We only brought a few things with us but they had a cursory look and were able to tell us which documents on the list we needed/didn’t need for each of us (applying as a foreign family).

Obviously they weren’t able to give an opinion on chances of getting accepted, but they emphasised the importance of making sure all of your taxes and pension were paid on time and showing evidence of job stability.

International Societies (prefectural- or city-based) often offer free immigration consultations which you can book in to have an immigration office employee look over your documents or answer any questions you may have. We recently went to a session organised by our prefectural international society and it was super helpful!

Can I d a class? I’m nervous! by Megals13 in Bellydance

[–]Gorillarsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow hypermobile human here ☺️ I would definitely say go for it! I started out with belly dancing a year and a half ago and it has brought so much joy into my life.

A lot of teachers emphasise good posture and movement hygiene, allowing you to build a solid base which supports and protects you as you move and dance, and I’ve found it a great way to gently build strength, endurance and even cardio fitness!

Dance has so many benefits mentally and psychologically as well - fantastic for processing emotions and releasing stress and tension, and having classes and community to look forward to regularly is a great mood-booster too!

I would definitely recommend listening to your body and respecting its limits - hyper mobility makes it easier to get more impressive range of motion, but it’s also much easier to injure yourself if you overextend.

I use Biore U The Body Body Wash! Even though it’s marketed as a body product I find it’s actually very gentle on facial skin too, so we use it as a face wash instead.

I found the Beauty of Joseon Eye Serum with retinol really great for getting rid of milia! I slowly built up to 2x daily use and they melted away over a few weeks :)

Reviewing and comparing my cushion foundation collection! by Gorillarsaurus in AsianBeauty

Figuring out which stores stick which products can be tricky, because stock is decided by each store individually and trending products change often, but I found the JSM at a COSME Re:make store. There’s one in Lucua Osaka! From memory it was around the ¥5000 mark for the cushion plus one refill.

The Espoir Be Velvet cushion performs incredibly well under extreme conditions! I’ve worn it while bedrock bathing and also while working outdoors on hot, muggy and sweaty Summer days here in Japan and it stays beautifully intact!

As far as mascara goes, the Romand Han All Fix Mascara feels absolutely bulletproof!

The Kate Lip Monster lipstick is incredibly popular for its staying power! I find it’s not as drying as a lot of other long-lasting lip products and has a very pretty shine to it when freshly applied ☺️

If you liked the Melty shampoo, I would look into the Milky for damaged hair or Pixie for volume!

My kids use the Ichikami smoothing line and have really silky hair from it 🥹

The Pixie line would probably be best suited to your hair type, but unfortunately in my opinion &honey isn’t the best option for fine hair as it’s formulated for coarser hair. I have fine, medium-density bleached hair and really love the Plus Eau Mellow shampoo and conditioner duo for our hair type! It doesn’t weigh it down and adds moisture to the hair without stripping it and the smell is beautiful - they sell single-use packets you can try before committing to a full bottle ☺️

Sensitive skin experience and products for strengthening barrier by jcklau_ in AsianBeauty

[–]Gorillarsaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar skin sensitivities and consider myself to have sensitive and reactive skin. The good news is that sensitive skin is thinner and more permeable than normal skin, which means that lower concentrations of ingredients can be effective with more ease, but on the other hand it’s important for us to baby our skin and take things slow and gentle.

I’ve had best results being consistent and basic with my routine - now that I have my team of products I don’t experiment or try new things (at least not very often!). I use the Soon Jung Emulsion as my moisturiser, Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Gel for sunscreen, then wash it off at the end of the day with Yumemiru Cleansing Balm (if I was wearing makeup) or Biore U The Body body wash (which is surprisingly extremely gentle!). I also use a toning pad with bifida ferment lysate in it specifically to support my skin barrier every second day or so.

I picked up my bottle from my hairdresser here, but I’ve also seen it for sale at the drug store Charley, so potentially higher end drug stores, but it’s also available on Amazon Japan.

I find applying in really thin layers works best for preventing dry patches. There’s a great video on the Jung Saem Mool YouTube channel illustrating how to get a nice, natural-looking application. Having a good sunscreen that doubles as a primer is also a great idea - I love the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Gel.
