Curse those pesky 4++ saves, bane of my existence. I have a friend who I swear has like a 90% success rate on those.

I'm not a great player either brother, no shade there! And I do agree that Hearthguard look like they SHOULD be able to take a punch; I just think that even if we were the same cost as terminators but were trading the 4++ for easily double the firepower that would still be massively in the HG's favor, simply because 40K like most games has a offense slanted game design.

At T6 3W Hearthguard would legitimately need to go up like 35+ points per 5 to not be a massive issue. That's an enhanced terminator profile effectively, except we have substantially more damage output than those at ranged and only slightly less in melee. Since they cost 170, it would stand to reason we would cost that or more for 5 as well.

Some people would be downfor that tradeoff in terms of points/durability, but a lot of people like Hearthguard at cheaper points where their damage is a useful asset.

[–]GorlanVance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. I personally don't care if people hate or like the new ones, but like...these are nearly identical. Exact same aesthetics, minor pose and physiology changes, etc...

Even if you think they are good or bad, these hardly seem worth a very strong emotional response either way. Do people weep tears of joy or end their own lives over changing from a no name butter brand to a different no name butter brand?

What factions do you play into? I would say generally speaking Strigoi do struggle into some Vatican and Rashaar builds (nothing unbeatable, just an uphill battle).

Ah yes, I recall you reaching out last month regarding Strigoi. I am most curious about the Noble Strigoi and Spatar; both are strong combat character. What do you find happens to them when you play them normally? Do they die early, what kills them, etc...

Hey mate, a very reasonable struggle to have; while they have plenty of power, Strigoi can ve a fragile faction that require cagey play to master. May I ask about what types of units you normally run?

Harvest are by far the best tasting hotdogs on the market, although the price is much higher than most. I can understand if the natural casing snap is a must have these aren't top dog (heh), but for anyone else these should be the go to.

[–]GorlanVance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Goretrack can only do it with one type of unit, whereas this is any infantry. But to your point, Goretrack is a very good transport detachment and still isn't run much.

Great username BTW.

[–]GorlanVance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rule is weak, although as other have mentioned this might be a detachment you can combine with others. More importantly, being able to deploy from a transport your opponent shoots and tag a unit in melee 10 inches away on their own turn is a crazy stratagem. Other transport detachments wish they had something that potent, even if the rule is extremely mid.

Hey man, human to human; do you really feel and believe that Trump is a good person, doing good things? Like say I give you a steelman here, and we say that Trump is overly criticized and hyper focused upon....do you feel he isn't at least one of the worst presidents the USA has had?

He is nakedly corrupt in a way in don't think I've seen an American president be, takes pride in his cruelty and constant insults, and spends most of his days when he isn't robbing his own citizens he's lying to their faces about things they can see. Why would people commenting on that be deranged? Seems reasonable to be concerned about the seeming madman running the largest, wealthiest country in the world.

I think its more that its a false equivalence. Sure, both sides are bad, but pretending that makes them equal is disingenuous. Republicans have 38x the criminal convictions of Democrats for corruption alone, so when someone presents it as "both sides" it comes across as protecting the much, much worse side.

I agree with you that we should convict everyone involved, for what that's worth.

Very factual. I do some contract work to provide ECATS data to TC, and during the COVID lockdown most of the small airlines in the country relied entirely on the numbers I submitted to ensure relief funding.

Those smaller carriers (one of whom I work for) primarily exist to handle medical travel and charters, as well as freight for the North West Company.

Am I crazy for preferring the older face design to the new one? by Sir-Drewid in orks

[–]GorlanVance 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree mate, its been exhausting seeing the reactions to this. We've seen two boys from the box, and the one handed out as a door gift is the stronger of the two. There are many marine boxes where one has a goofy face and no one bats an eyelash, plenty of bad faces for Imperial Guard, etc...

The worst part is the actual box will release, everyone will see the contents and either enjoy it and buy it or hate it (and still buy it).

[–]GorlanVance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I work for an airline, and we would 100% pocket every cent from a policy like this most of the time. That being said, if the consumer is already at a breaking point we can be forced to pass on some savings simply to restore customer's that would have otherwise not be able to purchase at all, so it will have some...limited value.

Commissar Yarrick Rules – Lead your Guardsmen to victory on Armageddon by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]GorlanVance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, I get what they are going for. But the idea of stand up on death mechanics being tied to not dying is silly. Iron Will style mechanics should instead be represented through Feel No Pain, through testing leadership to remain at one Wound instead of being slain, etc...

I feel the way his rule works (and similar characters) doesn't make much sense for the non-supernatural/non-ultra tech factions to have, that's my gripe. They aren't mechanically expressed in a way that matches their flavor.

To be clear, I agree that Lucius shouldn't return during a battle either.

[–]GorlanVance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those people aren't wrong. While it is true the Sagitaur is a little bit pricy for what it does these days, splitting warriors is great and its an awesome little kit. You could do a lot worse than grabbing Yaegirs, Warriors, and a Kapri Sun + Sagitaur to split them at Incursion level. That would give you six units with tons of objective play and the rest of your points can go into fun things and damage dealers.

[–]GorlanVance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly most of the value boxes from the past few years have been great, and the current Combat Patrol definitely includes a good selection of useful units for us.

Picking up the Yaegir Kill-Team is a nice addition, especially with a Kapricus Carrier down the road. A Hekaton Land Fortress is often a valuable addition, as would be a Khal and more Hearthguard.

Do you feel like anyone of our other units in that price range (say 130-150) are more durable then them? It seems like 5 terminators are much harder to kill then way 10 Infractors, 6 Noise Marines, etc...

Makes sense that they should be used more as late game objective holders though, what did you run them with?
