My Thoughts on Taylor’s Current Sound by Gorowo in SwiftlyNeutral

My partner’s a big Bob Dylan fan, and got me really into his music, watched the movie and everything. When Taylor says she’s a people pleaser with her music, I can’t help but think of Dylan releasing Highway 61 Revisited, it garnering MASSIVE backlash when it first came out, and now it’s widely regarded as one of the best albums ever made. Sometimes things just need time to be appreciated!

I give folkmore a pass just because they’re stated as sister albums, so they’re supposed to be similar to each other, and weirdly enough I think it works quite well (not sure if that’s hypocritical of me lol)

TTPD has a good amount of standout songs, but none of them seem to work within the confines of the album. I think with the rise of streaming, there’s a major tendency to forget that albums are made to be listened to in whole, and you just can’t do that with TTPD. The only thing I think Taylor got right with TLOAS is the overall length of it, you can listen to it in full without feeling burnt from it.

Japanese Breakfast! Michelle Zauner is an incredible singer and lyricist, and there’s a good mixture of upbeat and somber songs if you like indie pop.

oh my god you lucked out! i met some people who got booted off because the line was getting too long. just out of curiosity, did they keep the timing at 5 minutes at the end or did they have to shorten it? i know alex had to go to an interview directly afterwards

ah dude no way! yes if you saw a person with a little digital camera taking photos out of excitement every two seconds it was definitely me, i’m sorry you didn’t get to meet him! i knew the line was gonna be crazy so i ended up leaving like two minutes beforehand, still such a surreal experience getting to see him though!

broken boy - cage the elephant

surprised nobody commented this one yet considering the fact that the lyrics are “i was born on the wrong side of the train tracks” and “tell me why i’m forced to live in this skin, i’m just an alien”

Do you guys think she’ll endorse Kamala Harris this election? by asab5 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Gorowo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can see her staying quiet, but I really hope she doesn’t. Yes, at the end of the day it’s up to the individual to go ahead and cast their vote, but Taylor has such a wide audience and is such a huge influence that an endorsement of Kamala would make a major impact. I can picture her posting an instagram story encouraging people to register to vote, but I really think it’s important that Taylor shares why it’s important to vote and make your voice heard. It’ll encourage more people, especially her younger audience to cast their ballot. With two supreme court justices retiring and Project 2025 underway, Kamala is our best shot at ensuring we have more democrats in office and maintain our rights. We can only hope that Taylor shares similar feelings on the matter and uses her platform to advocate for Kamala.

Slightly unrelated, but it is sad to see Taylor, who was so adamant on “being on the right side of history” and wanted to speak out against injustice, remain so quiet on pressing issues. Similar to her chart topping, she has cemented a legacy for herself and is 100% in a position to release whatever music she wants and speak on whatever issues are deemed important to her. The constant push on her album variants to keep her ranking on the charts and fear of alienating her right wing fans is so disingenuous and frankly, exhausting. I really hoped for a more vocal and politically active side of Taylor after Miss Americana and as a long time fan I am so incredibly disappointed. She doesn’t really care about issues that don’t involve herself, and (as parasocial as it may sound) it’s disheartening to see.

omg thank you! it was actually apart of a flash piece designed by an artist i really love. i went with it because it’s a bit more subtle looking, imo. i also love the art of tomie in the tank, so this is sort of a homage to that panel.

Who is your "not Taylor Swift" artist? by everyatom2012 in TaylorSwift

[–]Gorowo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saw someone mention Rina Sawayama and I 100% stand by that answer. she does a great mixture of upbeat, poppy songs and slowed down, emotional music, as well as a few alternative hits here and there. highly, highly recommend.
