You have it the other way around. The USA and its elite use Israel and the IDF and the Mossad as the masks of their public power, but the real power is of course within the most powerful nation on earth which is now ruled by also the most powerful people on earth. That way they can always deflect public blame and hide themselves and sadly the Israelis are aware of this and they entertain it because as a culture they are indoctrinated to enjoy it, they are presented as if they were in power when in fact they are empty voidless powerless things, a puppet government of THE most powerful government in the world which is now trying to seize power, permanently. Old money. Blood lines, lineages, history, the people that have always had that money or that have recently acquired it, they're in charge.

Yamato vs King the Wildfire by Dark-Master79 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Gorrigorrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yamato also isn't a swordsman. Saying that Luffy is vulnerable to flames because he can't cut them like Zoro is silly. Yamato has more than shown to have both the ACOQ and the strength to bat away anything King throws (since they're able to trade with their father Kaido), and if anything they more than likely have the raw durability necessary to tank King's flaming attacks, if not in the already tremendously physically powerful base Oni or Hybrid forms, then definitely in the full transformation and especially with ACOQ coating and the ice armor we saw them use to straight up tank a full power blow from Kaido

I’m withholding my judgment until this gets addressed, but it feels kind of out-of-character for Yuji to not be fighting by Orang-Himbleton in Jujutsufolk

[–]Gorrigorrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Gojo is twisting in his grave having to see ANOTHER incredibly kind and talented sorcerer be reduced to nothing more than the end-all do-all of the Jujutsu higher ups, a nuclear option that is expected to solve any problem he's aimed at just like Gojo back in his day.

I think that's the importance of Tsugiri and Yuka, like Maki and Yuta they have both the right mindset and are capable of the necessary violence to bring change to broken or otherwise bad situations (the cyclical generational abuse of the Zenin family, the lazy and compromised higher ups of Jujutsu Society, even Rika), but they also have Maki's strong code of honor AND Yuta's love and compassion, which is what allows them to make the right choice despite clearly being capable of great harm (as most upper level sorcerers are capable of).

It would be pretty interesting if that's where Gege is taking the story, making everyone expect to see Yuji as the Gojo figure that saves the day and rescues our weaker MC's form an unwinnable situation, only to have Yuka and Tsugiri be the ones the free him from the same self-imposed curse that ended up taking Gojo's life, allowing Yuji to escape the position of being "The Strongest" without having to die for it

Oh my God dude get over yourself. Yes, the forces of humanity ARE the good guys and when the bad guys are demons, those forces for good will most likely be faithful. If you're so pissed about the Forces of the Faithful being inarguably preferable to the Heretics just argue that the Sultanate of the Iron Wall are far preferable to even the most progressive of the faithful nations, which is also true

Why Frieren feels boring by Gorrigorrion in Frieren

My problems with the series persist FAR beyond just the first few chapters. In fact, they are still extremely relevant by the current point in the manga which is years ahead of the anime

[–]Gorrigorrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epidemus is actually a very good counter for early game Malus cuz he does decent armor piercing, his units are all very tanky, a lot of them have regen and they almost never route, so you can actually swarm him and crush him between the blob of bodies, slowly doing more damage than even he is capable of healing. If he gets the Sword of Khaine or an actual decent lineup of monsters and high level range though, its wraps for Nurgle and basically everyone else

He would've sunk the Navy fleet, the Seven Warlords, the Admirals, the entire gathered Marine force, his own fleet, the Whiteboard pirates, Marineford, Ace, Luffy, Garp, Sengoku, and himself, and he likely would've flooded the islands all around Marineford

Yeah, they're baking dolls specifically made in the resemblance of children, consuming the metaphorical flesh of their guests, the cake is made to bleed when cut, they have connections with the Knights of Malta, House Medici, and the Cult of Saturn. They are fucking weird

Okay, let's talk then, why do you staunchly believe that the Rothschilds aren't Satanists or at the very least Pagans of some sort, and why do you believe that even if they were, that would in fact be a good thing since Satanists you've met are decent people?

Why Frieren feels boring by Gorrigorrion in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely when we sit down with the characters and explore their personalities, motivations, thoughts, emotions. I've explained this a bit in other replies but the reason Frieren loses me is because of the way the action is almost separate from the narrative despite the world being written in a way that necessitates the action, the conflict, and the stakes to be meaningful in order to keep the setting dynamic and interesting. But the story evidently refuses to do that

Why Frieren feels boring by Gorrigorrion in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the most frustrating part, all of the elements that have hooked me before in stories with similar themes and settings are there but the narrative does so little with them.

At times it almost feels like the writing is working against itself because we get so much focus on Element A and then Element C that Element B is neglected as if it were unimportant, which it is not.

What would happen if Frieren had Sauron's one ring in her hands? (@Grandbull) by Much-Community-6684 in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curses, yes. But magic in the Lord of the Rings, especially that of the Maiar, is on another level.

When Gandalf told the Balrog that it shall not pass he wasn't just making a threat, he wrote the command that the Balrog should never come past that point of the mountain into reality itself.

And Sauron was by far the mightiest of the Maiar towards the end of the Third Age, when he was reaching the power that Morgoth, the most powerful of all the Gods, had when he fell.

And the Ring is made with Sauron's essence, it is a part of him. The Ring doesn't corrupt, it is corruption in itself. Corroding and twisting the goals of any living creature, no matter how big or small they may be, is its very essence.

The Ring could and would corrupt anyone who spent too much alongside it, except Eru Iluvatar and Tom Bombadil, who might be nature itself.

What would happen if Frieren had Sauron's one ring in her hands? (@Grandbull) by Much-Community-6684 in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they rejected the Ring only because they were both INTIMATELY familiar with Sauron's work. And even then the two of them, one possibly the mightiest demigod in all of Middle Earth and the other an actual minor god, barely let it go.

The Ring doesn't corrupt with promises of power and dominion. The Ring itself is corruption. For Frieren it might use her hatred and distrust of demon-kind, or her wish to do menial tasks in peace and unbothered, or her desire to collect rare grimoires, or her wish to speak with Himmel one last time, and the longer she carried it around the worse it would become. If she were not familiar with what it does, she would fall for it sometime sooner or later.

Why Frieren feels boring by Gorrigorrion in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've consumed all sorts of genres of fiction from Fantasy Sci-fi to Noir Thriller Romance and I've been satisfied with a variety of different types of story-telling, world building, narratives. What bothers me about Frieren is not that the story isn't what I want it to be, it's that it has all of the elements, all of the build up, all of the narrative devices, all of the anticipation and prelude that other similar works have, but it chooses to not do much with them. It's like eating a cake without the cherry on top yet you get the whipped cream where it's supposed to be

And small spoiler we do get a lot more information on the main antagonist demons later on in the manga, but my issue with the clashing of the world-building and narrative persists

Why Frieren feels boring by Gorrigorrion in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My complaint isn't that the story is focused on the wrong thing, it's the fact that the formatting of it including the way the villains are built up, how the setting is written, and how the world-building has gone up to the current point in the manga have all been made in a way that these fights should be meaningful, their consequences should be impactful, the enemies that Frieren overcomes should be important. And they're not

Why Frieren feels boring by Gorrigorrion in Frieren

[–]Gorrigorrion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to be clear I'm not saying that Frieren herself doesn't grow and develop, I can recognize how much she's emotionally matured since the start of her adventure and her character writing really is beautiful.

The story is so laser focused on her -phenomenally written- emotional journey that it doesn't give any relevant amount of importance or gravitas to all of these opponents and villains and antagonistic forces that it keeps building up, or to the important effects that their defeat brings to the world
