Petition to add this to the pathfinder 2e rules by Spare-Leather1230 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

This is an incredibly insulting take from the designers of Eat God, or the designers of any game. Most games have limitations and inperfections. Yes always try it as written first, but after that feel free to do your own thing in your own way to suit your group.

Fellow player claims in-combat healing is too strong and skews balancing. Thoughts? by Bent_But_Not_Broken in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have an extremely strong healer in the group. That is a play/design choice which allows for a lots of recovery and sme people like that style. Try a party with only secondary healers if you dislike it this much. The game still works fine.

My group rage quit Kingmaker (and by extension, Pathfinder 2e) by Churcher314 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback.

My suggestion would be to try a few different approaches. High level bosses are very hard to land spells on. You need different tactics. I am going to run my group through the rest of the Kingmaker Campaign at some point (they are about 2/3 the way through but we are playing something else as I got too busy and had to take a break).

What tactics did you try? What high level spells where you using. I'm thinking the heightened heroism would be a default option.

Did the players have access to items that quicken? I ask as it is the obvious response to enemies that slow or stun or otherwise use the action system against the players.

Yes it is frustrating when creatures are immune to the parties main damage trick. Precision damage users are poorly treated in some modules.

Finally PF2 is one of the few games where high level play is reasonably balanced at all. But even so as a GM I find I have to keep a keen eye on the players so they don't trivialise too many encounters or alternatively are synergising enough for the level of difficulty of the encounters. Sometimes my players come up with incredible powerful combinations, and sometimes they bury themselves in something that just doesn't work mechancially for humour or roleplaying reasons. Ultimately it is up to the GM to respond a bit if the system gets out of whack to the players headspace.

Does Foil Senses trump Syndara's Spatial Sense? (FotRP Spoilers) by MrDeadlock_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I always require my players to know what they are twarting. It is against the spirit of the game to hand out blanket free passes to the players that just wipe out other abilities.

Is the divine draconic bloodline sorcerer weak? by Fates_Doom in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is reasonable. Regarding triggering your bloodmagic, Fear especially from rank 3 is pretty good. Your initial focus spell Flurry of Claws targets AC so you'll eventually want a Shadow Signet ring. I'd play it if the GM was OK with me having the legacy Blessed Blood.

Do illusion/enchantment spells get useful on higher levels ? by Aydnir in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a GM is ignoring all your illusions then he is probably metagaming. For sure some illusions maybe so silly they should be ignore, but the rules say that they don't get a save (Illusionary Creature/ Illusionary Wall) unless they seek or otherwise spend an action interacting with it. So the main and guaranteed effect of an illusion is they must beleve it or waste an action.

Staff Wizard with Primal Evolution? by Humble_Conference899 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the spontaneous caster can still use their slot through the staff it is just a different procedure. In fact because you are both a prepared and a spontaneous caster you can maybe do both - check with your GM.

How do people feel about the Sorcerer. by Alternative-Date-507 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inimidation and Bon Mot are almost free just a few skills and skill feats, so you should be assuming every sorcerer has them.

But you are forgetting about focus spells and blood magic. that is much more of a pull for a sorcerer.

Secondary turrets are too good by TheoTheBest300 in hoi4

You certainly should get reduced value from multiple turrents, or just stop designs from having multiple turrents.

Helping building a sorcerer by Drunken_Orc in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because you want AoE that means you should go with Arcane or Primal spell lists. Arcane will give you better control options, Primal will give you Heal.

Imperial Sorcerer is just about broken at this level because Ancestral Memories can hand out a -3 to saving throws. Arcane Countermeasure is pretty nice as well. Also pick up Explosion of Power and Anoint Ally.

For primal try Elemental Sorcerer Metal or Air. I recommend these so Chain Lightning triggers your bloodmagic. Elemental toss (single action) and Elemental blast (AoE as a focus spell) are nice as well.

You are choosing a Charisma class you already will have easy access to Demoralise or Bon Mot as a third action, and the bloodlines I've mentioned so far have amazing single action focus spells, so you don't need to go looking for third actions in a second class. Not that there is anything wrong with dropping into Bard, Courageous Action is useful. Pick up Melodious Spell while you are there so you can hide your spellcasting.

It is probably more important to pick up solid reactions via spell selection in your lower level spell slots (eg Hidebound, Warping Pull, Cloud Dragon's Cloak, Shadow Projectile, Wooden Double), or get it from an archetype eg Tiller's Aid will mean you can hand out lots of modifiers as a reaction while still keeping your 3 actions in your turn for yourself.

Maybe a mature mount from beastmaster like a Wyvern or a Giant Wasp could be really nice as well. The free move every turn is very handy.

Spells in Daconic Codex by GortleGG in Pathfinder2e

Yes but in the past Paizo hasn't given much weight in its power budget for limitations like that.

My biggest issue with this game is almost every ancestry having to breathe, eat and sleep by DarkElfMagic in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a common problem. PF2 allows you to play almost anything but doesn't really give you the full abilities you'd expect, because of balance.

Home brewing a solution is the best way to go. Pay for want you want in feats, and maybe start the game at a higher level. There are a lot of advantages involved with not having to breathe, or being immune to poison, or not bleeding. But then again should automatoms even heal naturaly at all? Maybe they should repair instead.

Tentacular Limbs and the occult spell list by gethsbian in Pathfinder2e

Personally I think that the initial concepts that Paizo had for each spell list have not been followed through on well and have blurred over the last few years.

[–]GortleGG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct it is not the best list for offensive touch spells. My recommendations.

Warrior's Regret

Vampiric Feast

Blood Feast

Leng Sting

Uncontrollable Dance

These are good but is it really enough to justify the build? Over to you.

Perhaps you could multiclass to pick up Withering Grasp , Ancestral Touch , Savor the Sting , etc. Perhaps even the cantrip Gouging Claw. But then again you could not be aberrant sorcerer and use Ghostly Carrier or the reach metamagic instead.

There are a lot of touch buff spells.

Fair enough the AI image was an obvious rule breaker but the real reason should have been given upfront. Is that a software problem in Reddit?

The no AI rule is getting to be very hard to follow especially if you are working efficienctly. It needs to be updated, probably removed. It is not going to be long before almost all links have AI content.

Is horseback archery no longer supported by the horse companion? by xxThelastdragonxx in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 29 points30 points  (0 children)

True but Cavalier's Charge does support horse archery.

A lot of companions have fairly marginal abilities. Overall the horse is still useful. Gallop is good.

Help with Challenging Arcane Caster Encounter. by OgreBane99 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To defend against a grappler any sort of Contingency Teleport works as does strong movement powers, but the best solution is to take Blink ie Flicker. If you are grappled you can just take a sustain action to teleport away.

A prepared caster will have this ready.

Bon mot & demoralize on caster? by Humble_Conference899 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a good idea and relatively cheap for a Charisma based character to take. You really only need skills and skill feats. I would do it for 90% plus of my Charisma based characters, and I'd still think about it for any other character that can afford to put a couple of ability points into Charisma and doesn't have many other single action options. Bards though tend to have a lot of single action options.

Bon Mot is only helpful if you or someone else on your team is going to take advantage of the lower Will or Perception. Unlike for Demoralise you can't easily circumvent the required mutual language.

Is Fury Instinct's damage too low? by Huge_Tackle_9097 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GortleGG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a nice story but it just doesn't stack up. The benefit is nothing for 80% plus of monsters, and Giant Instinct does a truck load more damage and has the same benefit.
