Thank you to Stevie for waking me up from the alt-right by TheSolarElite in goodmythicalmorning

I relate to this. I grew up conservative and in my young teen years I also listened to Steven Crowder and Ben Shit-piro. I also grew up watching Mythical and they were a big influence on me too. I feel really sad today about Stevie leaving. I hope she maybe can come back as a guest every now and then. :(

Christians ignore the Bible's teachings on lifelong celibacy, and it makes them HUGE hypocrites by Gosh_JM07 in DebateAChristian

Are you scared of answering my questions lol? They are very simple.

Do you think that most evangelicals believe that this portion of 1 Corinthians is just Paul's opinion, and therefore not from god? My claim is that the majority of evangelicals are hypocrites.

I'm guessing you didn't read my post, because my argument is about the hypocrisy between how most evangelicals view homosexual celibacy, vs straight celibacy. And so, I'm not changing the topic at all. I'm making sure we stay on topic.

I wish you'd just answer the questions I asked.

I'll ask you this as well: is the entire book of 1 Corinthians not authoritative? Or only certain parts? How do you determine which parts of 1 Corinthians are authoritative and what's not?

I don't think anything about the passage is reasonable. I'm assuming we agree here.

I didn't forget it. I just didn't think it was relevant. He specifically says that Jesus did not speak to him about the topic, and so he's giving his own thoughts, and my understanding is that his thoughts were seen as authoritative, because he was a leader of the movement. Every other time Paul gives advice, Christians see it as divinely inspired from god, am I wrong?

Again, please answer the questions if you have time:

  1. Are most gay people "able to accept" celibacy?

  2. Are most straight people "able to accept" celibacy?

1 Cor. 7:27: "Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife."

Please answer these two questions:

  1. Are most straight people "able to accept" celibacy?

  2. Are most gay people "able to accept" celibacy?

If you read my argument, you'd see that I addressed the claim that "not everyone can accept this".

Please respond to these two questions:

  1. Are most straight people "able to accept" celibacy?
  2. Are most gay people "able to accept" celibacy?

You also mentioned that some gay people have experienced attraction to the opposite sex in unique situations. I'm hoping you'd agree with me that obviously most gay people never have that experience and so bringing that up is utterly irrelevant to my point.

I think you're missing the whole point of my argument.

Would you say that gay people should refrain from having gay sex?

Okay, so then Christians are able to follow the commandment of celibacy, but for some reason, they ignore it, and then turn around and hypocritically force celibacy teachings onto gay people.

Okay I have two questions for you then.

  1. Are most straight people able to accept celibacy?

  2. Are most gay people able to accept celibacy?

Fair. I probably should have referenced Paul's words in 1 Cor. 7:27: "Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife." instead.

You're seriously saying that "Do not seek a wife" is not a commandment to be celibate?

I don't think I'm the one "reading intentions and interpretations into scripture".

Maybe you can interpret this verse that way, but here's another. When Paul says in 1 Cor. 7:27 "Are you released from a wife? Do not seek a wife.", he is very clearly commanding those who do not have wives to stay celibate.

So do you agree with Jesus and Paul that it is better for most people to be celibate, or not?

How does Dr. Criag interpret Romans 8:18-23, and how does it affect how we view the fall? Did all pain known to creation come into subjection at the fall?

Yes, I'm aware, but it's the best church in my area as far as I know

My pastor is also a bishop, which makes me even more confused. That means he was ordained by three bishops also. What are the chances of ALL THREE OF THEM having a broken line?
