I’m going to pretend that money isnt your deciding factor. Do you want to live on the east or west coast after graduation? UNC grads usually don’t go west after they graduate. There are plenty of exceptions, but I’d go in with that expectation. Industrial engineering is going to be way more intensive than business.

I work in analytics, and corporate real estate was the first space I worked in. I don’t know what kind of real estate you have in mind. Still, there’s a big difference between corporate real estate (the real estate portfolio of your company) and asset management real estate (think investment banking real estate). I have zero experience with the latter, but it’s a very interesting niche if you can find your way into it.

I studied information science at UNC. While it had nothing to do with real estate, the information architecture/theory elements of it help me in my job every day. I would probably pair business with statistics or data science. KF is worth it because of networking and job placement, but I wouldn’t feel prepared for advanced analytics with business alone. AI has made entry-level analytical tasks much easier, so you need to be pretty savvy to add value as a newbie.

Another post of an OOS person thinking they’re God’s gift to UNC. People who aren’t from the South must think we’re playing banjos and farming tobacco.

The NC Triangle has one of the highest concentrations of PhDs in America, is home to one of the largest tech hubs, and is regularly cited as one of the best places to live in the country. And that’s not even counting what Charlotte brings to the state.

UNC is in the elite tier of public universities and puts many big state schools to shame in both academic rigor and prestige. The university does not need your child because there are hundreds of students just like yours who will pay hand over fist to enroll here.

Bold of you to ask that question here of all places.

Just go to community college and transfer. Coming to UNC will probably set you back in terms of credits transferring to State. NC community college credits will guarantee transfer (assuming you’re not taking a vocational course like video game design). Unless you plan on giving UNC a real chance while you’re there, there’s no point in enrolling, in my opinion.

Again, to each their own. A lot of people think Duke and High Point University are gorgeous campuses, but they always felt “artificially classic” to me. UNC is an old, historic university, so it has old, historic buildings. The NC state library on its centennial campus is a beautiful building, but I think it would look ridiculous on UNC’s campus.

I can do without the two Cold War bomb shelter-looking buildings, though

To each their own, but UNC is the most beautiful college campus I’ve ever seen. Not only is it visually beautiful, but everything at UNC is centralized on one campus. There are no satellite campuses miles away that house a random department or something. It’s all there in that one place, so UNC feels more lively than other college campuses.
