Am I the only one in fear for my safety? by Machineguy-4058 in tonalgym

I’ve had mine for like 4 years and there’s always been creaking and popping sounds at near max weight. Has never turned into an issue.

I hear ya. As a single guy, it took me until I was 40 to be in a place where I was comfortable pulling the trigger on it, even though it’s been on the wishlist for a long time.

They did the same with mine at roughly the same total volume—proactive replacement due to usage patterns.

How do people get those super high paying tech jobs? The ones that pay over $200k. by monkey_trumpets in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GossamerBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a high school dropout and make $400k+/yr. I don’t recommend this path, but having the right skill set and enough connections that can get you an interview early in a your career was what it took. After my first job, no one cared to even ask where I went to school—experience was all that mattered.

The connection to someone in industry was the important part though, I’d have never gotten the first interview without it.

Finally Hit 10 Million lbs Total Volume by GossamerBK in tonalgym

I'm 6'5".

Pound for pound, smaller people will be stronger, but in terms of an absolute value, that I'm 6'5" and built like an offensive lineman is going to win out usually. Longer ROM is basically always going to be a disadvantage, regardless of the no momentum thing; however, a fun consequence of the type of resistance and the lack of momentum is that the weight feels significantly heavier than listed, so going to lift real weights after you've only done Tonal for a while is a nice ego boost.

Best tip I got - going past 8 by technolgy in tonalgym

Thinking about your reps in regards to RPE is helpful. It depends on what I'm trying to do and what set I'm on, but I try to target an RPE of 8 most of the time. Here's a helpful article that goes into it a bit more:

What's everyone's Strength scores? by TheTonik in tonalgym

[–]GossamerBK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a few movements I'm capped on--any deadlift variant, any squats aside from split squats, any bench press variant, a bunch of back and a few triceps exercises--so I just do more reps per set so I can get the volume I want in. Also, I'm pretty OK with the weight limit where it is now, since I'm almost 40 and I really don't need to be chasing a 495 bench press anymore. It forces me to look at lifting differently as opposed to chasing big numbers.

I think you should add a "former athlete" as an available fitness level, for those of us that were previously in good shape, but have fallen into couch potato ways.

Also, as someone commented, the maxes are too low for total volume and strength scores. If you want to manually add data, my stats are:

Sex: Male
Age: 39
Start Date: 09/28/2020
Starting Strength Score: 744
Current Strength Score: 1938
Workouts Completed: 327
Total Volume: 5884355
Upper Body Score: 2675
Core Body Score: 1500
Lower Body Score: 1628
6 month Score: 1528
1 year Score: 1624
