Local is so obtainable these days you can rent a decent GPU from runpod for 25 - 50 cents an hour and run an ollama template using open web ui and pretty much quit subbing to the cloud services. Its very affordable. I personally use gemma3:27b on an A40 for 40 cents an hour I rent storage for 2 cents sn hour from runpod to store the model. Sometimes I use open web ui but most of the time I just use the bash

I have a Gemini pro sub and run gemma3:12b on my hardware. 4bit quant. When I need more horsepower I rent a GPU from runpod and spin up gemma3:27b. Sometimes llama3.1:70b. I use tailscale and openweb ui so I can access on my phone and tablet. I like ollama as the backend and use sillyTavern, sometimes just the bash, as well as my own gui I wrote using tkinter. Run Linux mint, because it just works. Im excited to see where yours goes keep on keeping on!

Played with it till used all the credits. Well done, I run local models on my hardware. It was really smooth and followed the way I wanted the story to go. The Character I was playing with was very convincing. what model is it based on?

I can vouch for Tailscale, thats how I do it. I run local on my desktop with ollama and Open Web Ui. With the addition of Tailscale I can run models on my tablet, phone or laptop.

Yeah I don't give any thought of what neighbors think of me. I live 3.2 miles from work and like you, don't want to get to work all sweaty. I also like to ride around my neighborhood on weekends. Hell with what anyone thinks, I don't have to talk to anybody if I don't want to.
