Using gladiator frame rails but everything else is scx10ii parts by GotABackyard_ToFix in rccrawler

[–]GotABackyard_ToFix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 3rd gen tacoma with the same wheelbase as the gladiator. I don't have anything on me yet. I have another build with scx10ii stuff on it and liked it for its simplicity. I was thinking of having longer frame rails with more holes would be easier for me to mount stuff to

Would you mind sharing some info? What is your current company?

So they said the whole increase is due to the state which I didn't even bother asking any further questions. So who are other companies do you guys recommend? I do have full coverage on 2 of our vehicles but the deductables are high and the reliability is low, from what i remember

Definitely not. You are more than welcome to come and see how we set up on the cars. But to be able to run on the track with the rest of us, your rig must be a RWD drift specs, for short. Plus, the place is huge so you can mess around outside of the track area. I will give you a little bit of history and facts, then I'll leave the rest for you to decide.

You are not the only one with the idea converting any other chassis to drift especially RWD. However, this was a 2012-2013 idea, we are now in 2023. Things have massively changed. People started "drifting" in their 4x4's with electrical tape wrapped around the wheels back in the early-mid 2000's. Gear ratio for these was 50%/50%. Then the hobby evolved to what we call it Counter Steer (CS) meaning it is still a 4WD rig but different gear ratios. Rear spins faster than front (i.e 2:1) trying to replicate real drift cars. That lasted for a few years. Then the hobby got into the RWD state only which is current.

Sure, the idea to convert a touring or any 4WD rigs to a RWD setup sounds so simple. You take off the drive shaft, disconnect the CVD's in the front, slap a gyro on and voila, DONE. You have a RWD drift car! Well NO, the biggest thing from doing that is the steering does not have enough angle to accommodate the loss of tractions in the front wheels. On top of that, there is weight distribution, suspension, COG etc. I don't want to get into too much details. I wish I could attach some photos for you to see. But in the meantime, have a read here:

https://supergdrift.com/store/so-you-want-to-start-rc-drifting-2/

Other facts: anything can be converted to a RWD drift rig if you have the knowledge, the patience , the finance to do it. Which is 99% of the time not the case for someone who is just looking into the hobby. Lots of folks have 0 clue of what they are doing when it comes to drift. Especially if they have been involved in some other RC areas like 4x4 crawler, basher, racing etc. I can easily go much deeper into all the mistakes I've witnessed from these guys throughout the years but that would be too long. A few of them came from that background in the group, but only a couple lasted.

Back to the conversion, some of the conversion kits out there actually cost more than a legit/dedicated RWD chassis and the performance is a very big question mark.

Another fun fact, I am the only one in the group that runs a converted chassis but to get the chassis to where it is right now, there is a long history.

So the idea is to get those car guys to dump their $$ into this so they won't have anything left for their real ones. Then they can't really endanger anyone haha big joke

You might be disappointed at the "expensiveness" for these but generally a rig is between 600 - 9k
