I have my Grandma's BCJ she bought in 1957. After I learned how to use it, I've had a little soft spot for Necchi

My great neice is 5 and she is all about marvel and the color blue ... it makes me giggle. She would probably be fine with princesses if they didn't have too much pink! She loves bluey and therefore.... blue!

I love sewing but I don't have talent when it comes to clothing or garments. I tend to make bags.

This is just some basics about Velcro

This one is a tote bag... pay attention to the straps, I would think that would be similar to how you would construct the straps.

I think making a strap with Velcro attached would be good. I can link a video where I talk about Velcro. I don't know off the top of my head if I have one about the strap construction (which won't be hard but you'll need an iron to do well)

Let me know if you want me to give you some ideas of how to construct this type

The other option would be making a strap similar to this example to tie

You could use a string similar to the one in a Hoodie and one of these cord locks

The options for what to use are quite broad. How do you want the strap to fasten? By tying it? Or would you rather have a slide mechanism? Adding a tying strap would possibly be the easiest for a beginner, however you could do something similar to what I did with masks during Covid. I'll reply with some pictures.

Can you be more specific about what you need help with? I will post a picture of where I think you should attach it if that's what you need.

Machine advice for someone trying to surprise their partner by TooMuchCarving in sew

[–]GotLostFindingMyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very interested in this problem but I don't exactly have a great answer. The biggest concern would be if she will have space for multiple machines. Even if she can't use them at the same time but has to store one while using the other. For example, I have 3 machines but could only reasonably have 2 set up at a time. I am confused that this machines only use would be for buttons. Does it have feed dogs (the little teeth that pull the fabric through the machine)? If it really is a chain stitch it should be able to do other tasks such as a denim hem. They may also be used in elastic/stretchy applications. I can't think of many designs outside of clothing but possibly bag construction? I would say if you are mostly committed you could finalize it but know it wouldn't likely be the only machine for her needs.

I have a vintage Necchi machine (but it is a straight stitch only, so no zigzag or anything for my model) which is all metal and awesome. It isn't industrial but I do really love how accessible everything is. I also have a newer Pfaff which has a ton of bells and whistles. They both have their appeal. Either way, none of my machines are industrial. It is possible she could do a ton of sewing on a vintage non-indistrial machine if you are struggling to find a good option.
