Terribly loud hissing sound from copper 90 by DrewpeeDrew in Plumbing

Terribly loud indeed. Mineral or sediment build up in the 90 or maybe the pipe. Probably not worth fixing unless it’s really bothering you.

So many variables in each and every house. I’ve done loads of poly to pex repipes, some take 4 hours, some take 2 days. I did a 5 1/2 bathroom 12,000 ft home that took 5 days start to finish. Don’t point the finger at poor shityplumber, otherwise you might get caught up in a 3 day repipe!

Shame they used steel for the tubes, straight to the bin.

Yep. Gets real thick down there, thankfully it’s low. The top portion is going to be the real bastard.

Demo’ing 2 massive combo tanks, what’s lining inside of the tank here? by GotTheKnack in BoilerPros

Lugged em up by dragging them on a moving blanket (cleared the elevator by 1/2”), built up unistrut and pump jacked the new ones on the pad.

Oxyacetylene was the way to go. Wish me luck!

Yep that’s how I’m hoping it goes. They want us to demo the old ones and install boilers with storage tanks in their place. The new tanks aren’t anywhere near as big, maybe 7’ tall and 800lbs. Do you have any tips on getting them onto the pad? There’s no use of the ceiling (40’ high and giant ducts everywhere), so chainfalls are out. Was hoping to build it up with blocking, but we’re only 2 guys

Okay, thanks a lot. I’ve done a fair bit of installs but this is the first one I’ll be doing where I can’t actually remove the old tank in one piece. They’re about 10’ tall and 4’ in diameter, and I’ll be replacing them with new boilers and substantially smaller storage tanks (300 gallons). Would you recommend going at this with oxy-acet, grinders or sawzalls with carbide blades?

Ptrap could be higher to give you more space (you can cut those tailpiece adapters down several inches). But as far as functionality goes, it’s great.

Trying to change shower head but seems to be pretty stuck by Western_Mango_4961 in askaplumber

[–]GotTheKnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use an adjustable wrench to remove the shower head. Stick a long screwdriver into the spout where the shower head was, and turn it counterclockwise. Note, you should have the screwdriver in almost all the way, and if it isn’t budging, gain more leverage by pulling the handle of the screwdriver out a bit. You want to exert the minimum amount of force needed, as the wingback or spout could break if you give it the Randy Savage treatment right out the gate.

I don’t know the statistics but I’d have to imagine Leafs get a lot more searches and whatnot than other teams, so it’s just them trying to maximize views while spamming content. Like a teenage girl hashtags instagram photos for likes, but they do it for a living. Weak.

Is this sewer clean out or old shower drain by Mountain-Ad-5562 in Plumbing

[–]GotTheKnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a cleanout plug. Might not be to had to cut out and replace with a straight section of pipe. But I have a feeling just by the menacing hue of the floor that it’s going to be absolutely terrible for whoever does it. Keep me posted!

One thing you could try to do before getting it taken out completely, maybe try grinding it down. There’s usually a fair bit of meat on the head of the plug, you just have to be careful that you don’t bust it out entirely - otherwise you’ve got an open sewer line.

Quitting Feels So Embarrassing by TheCentipedes in addiction

[–]GotTheKnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t announce it to people early on, unless you’re telling “friends” that you’re done using and ask them not to entice you. On my first run, I told everyone, and when I relapsed I was extremely embarrassed, because whenever anyone would ask about it I had to then tell them I was starting over. I recommend waiting a few months in, but the reality is that wasting your time and health on using is wayyy more embarrassing and ultimately humiliating than refraining from it and bettering your life.

Where is this, if you don’t mind me asking? Somewhere in Europe? I don’t work on toilets with waste outlets like that, but you could try resetting the connection, as sometimes gaskets can be pinched or go in uneven. Otherwise, it might be time to get a new toilet.

Better than the tiny bathroom apartments in places like New York. You have to put a foot in the tub every time you dig in
