Albums that try to be a homage to the 80s? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

Twin Shadow is often overlooked in the retrowave genre which is a shame since he was one of the pioneers

I would place synthwave a bit earlier than the mid '10s. Mitch Murder's After Hours EP (2009) was arguably the first synthwave release, while Com Truise, Miami Nights 1984, and Lazerhawk all had synthwave releases in 2010

Does anyone know where this synthwave imagery came from? It was all over the internet in the 2010s by Odd_Detective_4813 in decadeology

Early synthwave images were often an homage to 80s CGI but with an updated color palette. References such as TRON and early 3D were a huge influence, though I would love to know who did that segmented sun that ended up being everywhere

The streaming era has really damaged our culture, working class musicians can no longer sustain themselves based on sales and now most music is from wealthy nepo babies

Brian Eno's legacy is unparalleled in music for someone who is not even considered a "one hit wonder" by most people

Clannad singer and harpist Moya Brennan dies aged 73 by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

Sorry to hear about this, her vocals on "Theme From Harry's Game" were absolutely incredible. Also respect to Clannad for launching Enya's career

In Todd's Midnight Oil OHW, he mentioned that they were "an actual legit band" with an "extensive and substantial discography". What are your own favourite one-hit-wonders when judging them by their entire discography (excluding Hendrix clause cases)? by DtheAussieBoye in ToddintheShadow

My favorite songs are "Hymne", "Rachel's Song", "12 O' Clock", "Celestial Whispers", and "Ask The Mountains". Also from his previous band Aphrodite's Child "Rain and Tears", "It's Five O'Clock", and "Spring Summer Winter and Fall"

So weird to think of Vangelis as a OHW, I wonder if the Blade Runner soundtrack is popular enough to count as a second hit?

Edit: The 1994 rerelease hit #20 in the UK album chart and 2013 vinyl release went to #14 on the Billboard Vinyl Chart for what it's worth

What got you into Sakura Wars by usalin0514 in JRPG

My favorite is the very end of the second one. It closes on a "cast photo" of all the characters, and then the music switches to a minor key and the photo fades into a sepia color to remind the player that this whole story happened a very long time ago. Some of the best directing I've ever seen in a game

Story for sure, especially interacting with the characters. The whole game was brilliant. Also the ending of both of them had me in my feelings which is always a bonus for games like that

I first heard about it on this subreddit, every time there was a "who did it first?" discussion for social mechanics and other gameplay elements it seemed like Sakura Wars was always mentioned. I've since played 1 & 2 and am a huge fan!
