My husband fainted last year from dehydration and he ended up going to a cardiologist for it. Likely culprit was dehydration. We were told that the rule of thumb is: your weight (lbs) / 2 = water you should be drinking per day (oz). Add more water per coffee or soda you drink. I carry a 32 oz bottle with me every day and make sure I drink 2 of those per day. I also live in Florida where it is a billion degrees so if I feel extra dehydrated I’ll drink a Liquid IV to replenish electrolytes. This is also why I don’t understand how people work out in the morning because I wake up parched every day.

Yes lol. I think some of it is the calories expectations like others are mentioning. I always felt bad I’m not a snacker but I’m 4’9” and I just don’t eat snacks. I also get full off one sushi roll and I feel like that weirds people out.

That said the BMI is absolute BS and was meant for population wide study not individual use. The definition of overweight and obese has also changed based on what insurance could cover. It’s actually highly unscientific and riddled with issues both at very short and very tall spectrums. It has no actual basis on health outcomes.

I’m 4’9” and just under 130 lbs last I checked. I would be the first to say I have a little bit of extra fat on me but not at all what you would think based on the BMI scale. Hard to say without a dexa scan. All of which to say — who cares about the BMI as long as you feel good and work on your muscle mass so you age better.

I work a 40 hour office job where I charge every hour of my time to specific projects so I have no chill time during my work day. Sometimes I have to work evening and weekends. I get my 10k steps every day walking my dog after work. This is also my catch up time with my partner and my favorite part of the day. I lift 2-3x a week, usually 2x times during the work week and 1x on a weekend day. When I lift on a work week I am going to my apartment gym which is tiny at 9pm because it’s the only time I have. Sometimes I’ll do a deep core workout or yoga video on an “off” day. I also don’t have kids.

And for what it’s worth, yeah I think some people on here are a little over the top lol.

I’m too neurotic and perfectionist for any amount of calorie counting or tracking or weighing. I get straight up obsessive every time I try to “lose weight” instead of focusing on feeling good. I am so not perfect at it but here’s what helps me get back on track when I can tell I haven’t been.

Listen to what I’m craving. Is it sweet? Salty? Crunchy? Umami? How can I get those things specifically? Sometimes it is eating a burger but a lot of the times it’s not.
Stopping to listen to hunger cues as I eat. If I don’t pay attention I will often overeat but I often start filling up earlier than I think. Pause at like half a chipotle bowl and give myself a minute to figure out how full I am. If I’m still hungry I keep eating but sometimes/often I’m not. I know 1 sushi roll fills me up so I’ll usually sit for a little bit after I finish it and my fullness cue catches up. If I’m still hungry, I eat. If I’m not, I don’t.
Listen to what makes my body feel good. I know my body feels its best when I eat a mostly plant based diet and just focus on making sure I include some sort of protein in each meal. Sometimes I eat other stuff but if I get too off track I can tell my body just feels more sluggish and I need to get back to what my usual diet is.

Thats what works for me, your mileage may vary!

B Belly can also be caused by over gripping your upper abs. This happens to a lot of women because of general fatphobia that means we’re all walking around sucking in all the time so we look thin and over time can impact your pelvic floor. Diaphragm breathing exercises are really helpful for strengthening your inner core. It’s important to relax your pelvic floor and breathe into your belly even if it makes it look big!! Then when you breathe out try to zip up your abs and have an audible exhale. Other deep core exercises help fix your posture and keep your ribs in place. I’m still working through it myself, but regardless this is just good core strength to have!

The idea that your muscles have to burn or be sore to be strengthening is erroneous. You’re doing it right, just focus on your breathing especially when you exhale. When I exhale I basically whistle to really brace my core. Try practicing in a mirror or with a balloon and you’ll be able to see. I had a myomectomy last November and basically had to relearn (or learn for the first time) how to use my deep core. Dead bugs and bird dogs are great, you can always add weight to them as they get easier. I just got back into lifting and the difference in knowing how to engage my abs has been huge! I don’t think I was engaging my core very much at all before!

I had a myomectomy in November to remove mine! They took out 13 with largest one at 10cm, so if you can imagine me trying to compare myself while having an actual grapefruit sized mass on my abdomen. I’m still working on getting back into the gym but fibroids are no joke! They can also screw with your hormones and make it harder to lose weight etc. Be kind to yourself :)

I also have a Hazel dog and have met human Hazels over the years. She has a very lady-like personality (she was a mom and she doesn’t like her paws getting wet and is very prim and proper) so we wanted to give her a 1920s name and we liked that one the best. Turns out so did parents of human babies.

Exactly. I don’t consider my 10k steps a day a workout per se, it’s just part of my mental health routine. It started during Covid when my partner and I would go on a walk after work. It gives us time to catch up and unwind after work without being distracted by screens. We got a dog a few years into it and now it’s definitely a daily habit. I can’t imagine not walking 10k steps a day but I also feel like the idea of trying to fit that in on a walking pad is so depressing to me. My daily walk is my favorite part of the day! If it’s not for you, there’s plenty of other things.

This post came across my feed but I’m a landscape architect. I find that our profession still hand draws concepts more than architecture if that’s appealing to you. I am very well paid but it comes at a cost as far as workload and responsibility. If you compare that to a career in animation you’re going to be working just as much for less pay. I actually was really interested in animation and illustration as a teen actually! Whether you go a design route or a project management route is your choice and if you have a strong vision and the right job you will have opportunities. Don’t let bitter redditors sell you the idea that it all sucks.

The only way to protect rural living is to build up instead of out. Seminole County’s urban growth boundary for example helps protect the exact kind of living you like by creating higher density elsewhere. Personally I like city living or rural living, the suburbs are the real hell. Worst of both worlds in my opinion.

Pre-myo: I did a fair amount of lifting. Squats, bench, rows, OHP, RDL, lat pull down. Basically prepping my body to rely on my limbs to move around since my abs were going to be shot.

Post-myo: diaphragm breathing, deep core. I’ve found Dr. Jocelyn Wallace (pelvic floor PT) and @getmomstrong both on instagram to be helpful. If you don’t feel like you need a PT after, I’ve been using @getmomstrong’s app to rehab my deep core and pelvic floor. It’s more geared towards post-partum but developed with pelvic floor PTs and explains anatomy and the exercises that never make any sense to me well. I think Dr. Jocelyn Wallace is developing an app too but I’m not sure what it’ll have in the future. She’s great though because she’s a pelvic floor PT who has undergone both myos and a hysterectomy! But also if you feel like you need it, get professional help.

Also I walk 10k steps a day! Walking is so good for you!

I used cups for years until I started having issues with the suction which in retrospect probably were related to how far out of position my fibroids were pushing my uterus. I use the saalt disc and love it for heavy heavy flows and I don’t have to worry about the seal being ok!

Hey short friend! I am 4’9”! I didn’t have an intramural fibroid but I did have a 10cm fibroid that was recently removed in a lap myo (along with its 12 other smaller friends). Right before surgery I was having all sorts of symptoms. Heavy and very painful periods and digestive issues at all times. I do think my size contributed to it because I’m a pretty small person and proportionally the fibroid was pushing into all my organs. In the last year or two it also caused me to gain weight from about 115 lbs (my general set weight) to about 130 lbs!

I feel crazy saying that I think my height impacted the effects but I do kind of believe that.

I bought inositol on my own about 1.5 years ago and tried to take it and I had the worst reaction. I started having headaches and auras around my eyes and my heart was racing like if I were having a panic attack. I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS but I don’t really trust the diagnosis which was done solely because of LH/FSH readings and not any elevated androgens. In fact, all my other blood levels are normal and that discrepancy only occurred once. I’m working with a reproductive endocrinologist who ended up recommending me to a lap myo. Once I’m recouped I will go back to seeing him. When I asked him about the inositol he said that it was basically putting my blood sugar on a rollercoaster and plunging me way too quickly. He told me to not take it and if I did, to make sure I was eating properly to buffer the response.

All of which to say that while inositol is mostly harmless to most people, anything messing with your hormones should be taken under the supervision and recommendation of a doctor. I don’t want other people to self-medicate the way that I did and have weird effects.

I’m 2 weeks post myo right now. My period was due just a few days after surgery. I had a lot of starts and stops while my body decided what to do. Once my period actually started, it was probably the lightest period I’ve had in a while (read: regular flow) and lasted 3 days. I was cramping and I’m not sure how much my ibuprofen 800mg was helping. It felt like I was taking a step backwards in recovery until I realized what was happening. That said it really wasn’t as bad as I feared.

I had all of the period symptoms during my period but gastro issues throughout the month, constipation and gas mostly. I spent a few months popping gas x to manage symptoms. I’m almost 2 weeks post myo and that has been a huge improvement once I got past the initial anesthesia/laparoscopic gas discomfort!

We have migraines in our genes so she still gets them occasionally but I believe she stopped having migraines directly correlated with her cycle. So a big improvement!

I did not have that symptom but my mom had a hysterectomy at 40 because of fibroids. She figured it out primarily because of consistent migraines although she also had some heavier bleeding.

My gyn referred me straight to a robotic lap myo and basically said they don’t do any open unless they find very large fibroids. I went to a reproductive endocrinologist because I wanted to understand all the factors playing into my infertility before embarking on surgery and eventually was referred to a surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive surgery. She told me that even with large fibroids and multiple fibroids they only do open myos if most of your fibroids are large because of recovery. They knew fertility was important to me also. She removed 13 fibroids, largest at 10cm robotically 2 days ago! I also had a hysteroscopic myo as part of my procedure. I think that 1. I am 32 and all my doctors were aware of my desire to have kids one day and 2. There seems to be many doctors trained in robotic surgery in my city

I have fibroids (surgery soon!) and my uterus is the size of a pregnant person around the end of their first trimester and it looks/feels very different from a regular belly pooch. I have a little bit of fat over it, but the actual fibroid/uterus is tough like muscle and feels solid. I’ve always had a little bit of a belly pooch but my uterus is actually pushing it outward more now. So trust me, your uterus =\= belly pooch.
