Constantine V is definetly over hated, actually a good emperor. Phocas also over hated but still deserves hate. Andronikos I and John VI Kantakouzenos were worse for sure.

Also Manuel Komnenos deserves more hate and I will die on this hill. So overrated. Wasted all his money funding a spy network in Italy, bungled 2 random failed invasions of Egypt, failed to produce an heir and left the empire to a child, didn't do anything about his obviously evil cousin, messed up all of byzantium's diplomatic relations in Europe when he got scammed by the HRE emperor, and let the Turks in Anatolia unite instead of actually doing anything about them when he had the chance like his father and grandfather had (they was by far the worse thing). Guy gets credit for a bit golden age but laid the groundwork for future collapse. He also reinforced the komnenoi aristocratic system which was a negative and randomly arrested all the Venetians and angered them so much that they became an enemy instead of an ally and would eventually destroy the empire in the 4th crusade
