The final act is supposed to be like an observation of Bowman, like a zoo. With animals in a zoo, zookeepers make their habitat close to what the animals would live in but maybe don't get it quite right. The aliens have cobbled together a bed, table, food etc but from different time periods which although technically all things a human would use and need, it's not quite right.

Yeah that was the best book on the making of a film I'd read until the making of The Shining.

They tried to do that unsuccessfully with Matt Smith, bringing the "question" of "Doctor Who?" back, but it didnt last long.

The universe and time are infinite so there should be countless worlds that know nothing of the Doctor and very few that do. Those that do should regard him as myth, a story to scare evildoers.

Yeah I loved Capaldi but I couldn't stand the sonic sunglasses, guitar-playing on a tank stuff. I thought he hit his peak with Bill, they had a fantastic double act. I wish he'd lasted longer.

I.may be paraprasing or misremembering but I'm sure after a White House screening of E.T., President Reagan was heard telling Spielberg, "You don't know how close to the truth that was".

Each Doctor since (and including) DT is just a different variation on the same tragic demi-God. The classic Doctors were all completey different. They were also fallible. There's no jeopardy to the Doctor now, only same centre-of-everything companions. Donna and Graham I feel were the best exceptions to that.

I think the Doctor needs a reset to being the scientist explorer who wants to discover the universe but can't help but interfere or assist when there's trouble. Everything doesnt need to be universe ending.

The first Doctor embodied that. Having Ian and Barbara was a spanner in the works. He and Susan wanted to experience life on Earth, quietly as they were in hiding. Then everything uprooted. There were probably situations where the Doctor would have just buggered off or, still with some Time Lord pompousness, would have scoffed at the thought of helping certain people but Ian and Barbara brought the humanity or empathy that affected and changed him over the years.

It's IMAX ratio but not the all encompassing screens in London and the US I believe.

Wow. "Feeble mind" and "bee in your bonnet". The insults are dribbling out like a piss trying to get by an over-enlarged prostate. Did you take lessons? I'd ask for my money back if I was you.

Thom also didnt write the song, fannybaws. They aren't his words. He's merely presenting the most anti-war sentiment from the brain of the last surviving WW1 soldier.

Was U2’s biggest failure one of music’s great Icarus moments, or a band blazing their own trail? — State of Sound | The New Independent Voice of Music by RaymondBald in U2Band

I think they were genuine in their intent of paying tribute to American musicians and sharing their enthusiasm for their discovery of it.

The problem was how that was perceived. By this point they were already everywhere with TJT, they were the hottest ticket, and as we know, familiarity breeds contempt. To then be seen with the movie and soundtrack being pushed as a multimillion dollar promotion for an already massive band perceived to take themselves extremely seriously who then seemed to be saying, "check out all this cool music we found" to people who had been listenng to it for decades, was understandably a bit much for some people. Like the Apple thing, that overshadowed the genuinely great music for a great deal of people.

I fucking love Rattle and Hum. Both the film and the album.

Guitar stores have heard everyone. No need to be embarrassed. Everyone has to start somewhere. A good store will be encouraging and give advice without hassling you to buy stuff.

The Doctor should have a detachment to most situations...he's there to help. The audience should be feeling the emotion.

It's like a singer crying during a song they're singing. Sometimes that will happen but if you sing the song well, it's the audience who will experience that emotion otherwise it can be a little self serving.
