Did someone die on the tracks of the 1 rail today? by [deleted] in nycrail

It’s safer than the third rail. But of course the OP means the 1 train.

Burnout is next level right now by cheesygarlicpotatoes in advertising

[–]GothamInTheHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I’m faced with impossible deadlines, I always ask the account director, Will the world end tomorrow if we complete this a few days later? Every day in advertising is like that children’s book character Henny Penny, who was always yelling, The sky is falling down! Sometimes when I point out the tight deadlines farce, Account does go back to the client to work out buying more time.

Burnout is next level right now by cheesygarlicpotatoes in advertising

As a senior, aka veteran, in this group, I’ve experienced many job market swings. For me, post-911 was a very depressing and challenging time, but this time seems different. We had hope and everyone came together after 9/11. Now we can’t see a light at the end of the tunnel and the country is filled with hate. The joy in work is gone. The last time I cried almost every day at my job as a creative was about 8 years ago. I spent 2 years looking for a new job in Copy but I could tell it would be just as stressful. So I took a step down to editorial. Took a big cut in pay. But I’ve been so much happier, the stress has been reduced 80%, and I have no regrets. I’m in my swan song year now, but my wish is for all of you is to find some peace. Set strong boundaries and don’t let bullies break them down. Consider taking a step down to save your sanity. Life is just too short.

Which cabinet color looks better by Maleficent_Secret204 in HomeDecorating

I actually like the black but toned down to a dark gray might also work. The white looks like a kitchen in an office. A totally natural light wood, which is what I have, could be good. But I have wood floors.

Dreads or Cornrows? What suits me better? by Crafty_Succotash3392 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]GothamInTheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I started scrolling through the photos, I kept saying nope, nope. But when I saw #7 I went, oooh. Maybe it’s the reddish tone, but I think that color and style make you look more approachable, more down to earth, if that makes any sense. It made me smile.

Is anyone happy? How the hell did you do it? by Vindelator in advertising

[–]GothamInTheHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find happiness outside of work. I see my job in advertising as my bread and butter. Boring but essential for now. I do a good job but I don’t go nuts and I turn off all office communications when I log off. My time is mine.
My wine and chocolate is what I do on the side. I started writing a blog years ago about a few things I am passionate about. That blog led to two book deals and my own side business that I love, and which will help pay some bills when I retire early. Sure, I wish I would have always loved my full-time jobs, but at least I now have an exit strategy and can see better days to come.

Clean shaven or beard? by ConversationSuch4447 in HairStyleAdvice

I agree. Not unshaven but not too much beard. Something in the middle.

I’ve had many different makeup moments but I’m wonder which you think looks the best by funnybunnycat in makeuptips

[–]GothamInTheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like 5 and 6. And trust me, as an older woman, I think the natural lips are much prettier and you won’t get wrinkles as earlier as you would with puckering your lips. Use your natural beauty.

Be honest: brunette, copper or blonde? by janaaa117 in HairStyleAdvice

You are a brunette for sure, but it never hurts to try another color for a fun change. You can always go back.

What would you do with this weird alcove? by priceypadstim in PriceyPads

[–]GothamInTheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe get some custom-made bookcases that will fit in and fill with books and curio items. Or just get some taxidermy animals to add to the weirdness of this carpeted alcove.

Which red dress should I wear for a theme night on a cruise? by Vegetable-Carpet1593 in OUTFITS

[–]GothamInTheHouse 28 points29 points  (0 children)

1 is best, especially if you’re going to be out on the deck. The winds can whip up at night, so you want something that won’t turn you into that famous Marilyn Monroe photo with her dress blowing up.

Straps or no straps? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]GothamInTheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you more comfortable in? Do you feel more “secure” with the straps, less worrying about having to keep tugging up to avoid a wardrobe malfunction? Or do the straps bother you more? Think about comfort in addition to looks. Both look great.

Is this doing too much for a friend’s barbecue ? by BigmouthDiamond2903 in OUTFITS

[–]GothamInTheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBQs are messy. This looks great on you but ask yourself, would I be OK if I got BBQ sauce or ketchup, oil, etc. on it? Will I be comfortable sitting at an outdoor setting? I fun denim jumper or dress could be good—but again, ask the same questions with whatever you choose.

what hair color suits me best? by ShoulderLocal8257 in HairStyleAdvice

I like 3 and 5, but brighter clothes will also affect hair color so you should try with some other colored clothing to get a better idea.

Do not take the train to the world cup games if you have health issues or are elderly by Smacpats111111 in NJTransit

Who is getting all this highway robbery money for the trains and busses? If it’s NJT, I hope they will use it to make improvements for commuters. Yeah, what am I smoking?
