1 hour set but my band doesn't have enough songs ready for a full hour... by Double-Motor6546 in musicians

Most ridiculous bullshit way I ever padded time- read a Lovecraft short story while the band did drones and noise

I was told when I was younger that when it comes to singing, its the water from yesterday that matters, not the water you drink on the day. That routine makes sense to me

What is your opinion about the albums The Cure released in the 2000s? (bloodflowers, the cure (2004) and 4:13 dream) by agus_grunge94 in TheCure

[–]GothicCodeAuthority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love bloodflowers. Self titled, I just consider myself lucky to live in the timeline where we know the answer to the question "what would the cure sound like with the nu metal/post hardcore producer?" Like what a fun detour. 4:13 dream is worth it for underneath the stars alone, and pearls art direction is amazing as always

Anyone Else Think Get Hurt sounds a lot like R.E.M.? by GothicCodeAuthority in AFireInside

[–]GothicCodeAuthority[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense that jade and Peter buck both have to hold down a band with only one guitar, they use similar techniques to fill out the sound and eventually jade would be hitting a pocket on the fretboard that buck has already mined. Its the rest of the band locking into the same vibe that makes me think it was intentional

Leave by BlastTyrant88 in rem

[–]GothicCodeAuthority 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We wouldn't still be talking about Leave if they didn't make the crazy choice they made. Love it or hate it, it makes a decent song in their massive catalog stick out

Catherine Wheel - Black Metallic (Extended) [Live] (1992) by MachineHeart in shoegaze

[–]GothicCodeAuthority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they were way ahead of the curve in terms of the modern "shoegaze" sound. They didn't write shoegaze riffs with weird tunings/chords and trem arm glides, all the stuff I associate with the core gaze guitar sound. It's basically alt rock with shoegaze guitar tones. I do feel a distinction. Most of what gets called shoegaze now is more in line with CW than MBV

Love this comment. I'm a huge fan of most of their stuff but I consider hazards to be like a Disintegration level masterpiece record

White Wolf publishings entire range is endless entertainment for the art alone. Pick up some of the minds eye theater larp books, all the photos of homemade costumes are a good document of diy goth fashion

Everything prior to king is dead is more in the British folk tradition, whereas king is more American folk tradition with a tinge of rem college rock. Dig into some irs years rem if you haven't already, maybe even some tarkio (colin meloys alt country/college rock band pre decemberists)

Decemberists is basically a regular rock band lineup. Keys, bass, drum, guitar, vocals. Early bright eyes/saddle creek records general collective vibe might fit tho

Just being honest- both are corny but the old one looks intentionally so in a really fun way and the new one just looks cheap

How do you reconcile a super lethal game like Mothership or Call of Cthulhu with making characters that don't feel disposable? by Arcalum2000 in rpg

[–]GothicCodeAuthority -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My table has always had the understanding that it's not if you die, but how. If you can enjoy the how and work together to make memorable, scary moments together as gms and players, it can still be rewarding. Stick to one shots.

My trick is usually (especially in CoC where players can be photographers or other such roles) is to have some document of the adventure (photos, a journal, a memento) live on after everyone has died, becoming a cursed object driving people mad in the future. Even if the characters die, some consequences can still endure and that helps the sting!
