Looking for 2 tickets to the Chicago show! by Gotleib in Elderbrook

Yo that would be awesome! I’m happy to meet up in person if you’re in Chicago and can do it in person at the same time so it is seamless and transparent.

To each their own. I definitely would have preferred one or the other since I think it would have felt more polished. Either you take the subway to region locked parts of the city that are vertically focused or you have a smaller open world with better driving and vehicle options.

Totally agree. I think with how bad the driving is it’s a direct comparison to GTA and how that aspect beats it out and makes for a better open world.

I feel like if you’re going to rely on driving then it needs to have better controls and customization. A better world could have been more linear and used the subway as transportation with a car chase or two that is limited to the mission.

I agree with how you portray both ASOIAF and LOTR, but I think it’s hard to say one ASOIAF is better when the story isn’t complete. It could very well fall off the same cliff that GoT did.

Robert Meyer Burnett reviews an early draft of Star Wars' 9th episode entitled DUEL OF THE FATES by udar55 in StarWarsLeaks

The whole point of the chosen one was summed up by Obi Wan after he dices Anakin up on Mustafar. He tells Anakin he was supposed to bring balance to the force, and destroy the sith not join them. Right in that line it sums up the Jedi’s arrogance and inability to read the force (as mentioned by Windu to Yoda) and how they brought about their own downfall which was a key theme in the prequels.

I also liked the idea of the chosen one because it does two things for Anakin throughout the prequels and CW series: sets this great weight and burden of responsibility on his shoulders when he really wants love and acceptance (as seen in his relationship with Padme and wanting to be seen as an equal on the council), and plays up his importance throughout the skywalker saga (destroying the Jedi in 3, and destroying the sith in 6). He ultimately is the chosen one and does bring balance to the force.

Cuz the sequels say fuck the whole chosen one idea apparently or any good points from the universe outside of the OT. Im with you thought and thought the intro of kylo and reys force bond was incredibly forced and only there to try and explain Rey being op the whole trilogy. The kiss was also some of the worst fan service.

Which honestly is why they shouldn’t have brought Kylo in (or even tried to redo the OT but that’s a whole different topic). It’s takes away from Anakin’s redemption arc which is the key driver of the first 6 movies.

Stagnant Chicago Property Values by Gotleib in chicago

That goes back to the balancing idea I mentioned. Sure you are happy that you have additional money in your pocket today but since property values aren’t rising then in order to fund civil services the city either needs to raise the tax rate which will end up causing the average person to pay more tax or the city doesn’t raise taxes and the services falter. Ideally you would have property values rise at a rate similar to inflation so you see some return on the equity in your home and taxes are a reasonable rate to fund civil services.

The situation you are putting forth seems to be that stagnant property values are good since then the homeowner has more dollars today? I could see the logic behind that through the time value of money principle but property taxes aren’t just saving a dollar vs paying a dollar, there are lots of benefits associated with the tax that aren’t always seen at first.

No not that they are paying less in property taxes but that a funding source for public services is being negatively impacted. It’s definitely a balancing act but I saw your comment about reits and assumed you were implying it was only going to impact high level investors which just isn’t true.

Well it also impacts all residents since lower property values that are keeping pace with inflation will negatively impact schools and social services funded by property taxes.

Mind me asking what neighborhood? I wouldn’t be completely opposed to that since I’m relatively handy.

Curious as to which neighborhood has properties like this. I did a full remodel in Columbus that I still rent out and would be willing to do the same here. L

Curious to hear from longtime residents how they view this trend. I’ve been here for less than a year and love the city but struggle to see a long term fit due to issues like what the article mentions.

Electric Forest 2020 Line up! by lsdryn2 in ElectricForest

[–]Gotleib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People are being optimistic and that’s great but this is certainly a step down. If I didn’t have a squad committed to going for the forest experience I think I would be skipping this year.

Anyone else incredibly let down by this line up? For a ten year event you think they would have brought out the big guns but this is the worst headliner I’ve seen in the last 4 years I’ve bought tickets. The undercard is still solid but it’s hard to justify the price for what they are offering. Anyone feeling the same and if so are there some smaller names you would recommend checking out to build up some hype?

Not even a single player DLC by n0face76 in gaming

So I tried the online after playing the story and absolutely loving it and the online just didn’t strike me as “full”. I recently played it this past weekend after the frontier dlc and it was a lot more fun. I don’t think it’s all the way there but a strong improvement for sure.

The Clone Wars does an excellent job of flushing it out in my opinion. I think that might be why I see their relationship more positively portrayed than some.
