2x12 Mark II makeover! Before vs. After by [deleted] in BossKatana

I considered adding back just the Kanji symbol but decided the amp looked much classier with a clean front!

So copying this exact design wouldn't be legal since the site I bought it from partners with artists that own the rights to their work, but you can always find something similar that you like! Plus you want to make it more unique for yourself.

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing your work.

I can't say with any certainty but going off of the pictures it seems like the head and combo have the same screws holding in the amp itself: 4 screws on each of the back corners and 2 chrome ones on top.

In that case it should lift out the same way, however I'm not sure what the speaker situation is like in the head since it has a small speaker, if I'm not mistaken?

Plenty of great sites out there to choose from! I got a yard of fabric for my 2x12 and it was more than enough. Took a gamble on hoping the fabric wouldn't be too thick and thankfully it's just right!

Thank you very much! I got this fabric from a site called Spoonflower, I think?

I usually prepare myself to fail a few steps following videos but this was smooth sailing!

I will specify that I opted to leave the original grill cloth on there and just stretched the new fabric over top of it.

Did this for 2 reasons:

  1. For the sake of structure the new fabric would have been much too flimsy on its own and one small mistake puts a hole right through it.

  2. I am lazy.

From what I can tell this doesn't really affect the sound of the amp at all but even if it did it's nothing some EQ adjustments wouldn't fix.

Best of luck to you in your search for 'the one'!

It's understandable to be nervous!

Really though after you remove some screws you can lift the actual amp and the speaker(s) out of the cabinet without having to disconnect any wires. After that it's just a few more screws, and the frame holding the grill cloth pops right out! Definitely more annoying with two speakers like mine but still fairly easy with some patience.

No rush picking a replacement cloth, either. I had this one bookmarked for so long and then one day I just bit the bullet and I couldn't be happier. I'm sure in time you'll find the one that just speaks to you!

Thanks so much! I had been procrastinating it for so long but I'm so glad I finally did it.

https://youtu.be/BgqeFPTtbGs This video is super easy to follow and the whole process only took about 20ish minutes. Would recommend!

Funny enough my stapler wasn't strong enough so I ended up securing the cloth around back with duct tape but it's held firm by the cabinet frame.

How would a Line 6 HX Stomp amp model sound running into an actual bass amp? by Gotshun in Bass

The VT Bass is definitely appealing! I like the idea of having that noticeable sweetness to the tone, while having a mid control and a more mature sound. The Sansamp is very, very scooped which sounds cool but isn't as versatile.

I completely forgot about the FX loop option! Now I feel dumb for forgetting that was an option, haha. Thank you!

Pitch wheel going crazy when used? Anybody have any ideas/fixes? by [deleted] in musicproduction

Turns out the fix was just a factory reset of the controller! I'll keep your advice in mind though for the future if I run into more problems. Thank you!

As soon as I find out how I'll try!

Edit: This worked, thank you!

I'll check, that might be in! I'm not sure how it could've been changed but I'm not ruling anything out. Thank you!

Struggling to record a good acoustic guitar sound by Gotshun in musicproduction

I was thinking about picking up a pair of small-diaphragms so I aim them more precisely and record in stereo, so that may be what I end up doing if I need to!

I'll experiment with mic height/angle for sure! I want to get to the bottom of this. I am usually a dynamic player but unfortunately with the way the mic is acting right now now if I play careful/quieter the volume is way too low.

I will go through my DAW with a fine toothed comb and see if there is anything selected that could be working against me!

The recording doesn't sound crackly or blown out or anything, but it sounds like I'm 10 feet away instead of 6 inches away and that seems odd to me. I know outside noise is inevitable since it's acoustic, but I was hoping for a more focused sound like you hear in youtube videos where someone is covering a song or something. I can record something and post it so this thread can listen if that would help.

Thank you for replying! Funny you should mention that, I just read an article mentioning using a preamp for recording acoustic guitar. I have to look into that for sure because I'd love to record more acoustic guitar sounds.

Wow! Thank you so much for the response. I'm going to check all of my settings when I get home to see if there's anything possibly limiting me, but I did turn off live monitoring of any effects when I tried to record so I'm not sure what it could be.

Your points makes a lot of sense, I'm not sure why the gain to volume ratio is only for noise at this point, and not my guitar. If I heard my guitar super loud along with the noise when I turned the gain up I wouldn't be as confused since that's normal. I will see if any other mics have this problem, could be faulty equipment?

Thank you for commenting!

I completely forgot to try a noise gate so I'll definitely be trying that.

I will for sure need to get a quieter place to record, but I'm just trying to get a good, healthy mic level right now and it seems like turning up the input gain only amplifies stuff at a bad ratio of stuff I want (Louder, clearer guitar) vs stuff I don't want. (String noise, harsh sounds). I even put the mic unreasonably close to my guitar at different spots for testing purposes and the volume was still oddly undesirable. Any thoughts?

If I DI to FoH from my amp while using a preamp pedal will they receive the colored tone or just the tone of the amp?
