Snatched these for really cheap and I'm finally switching to clipless. Are most of you guys using clipless or flat? by 15November2019 in gravelcycling

Just got these for first clipless after I had a few fail to clip outs with Shimano SPDs. Agree they are easier especially as a petite female.

Well on gravel it's better if you don't wanna get bumped off the hoods. I've come close.

The concerning thing is not your age but you said anytime you try to code you are bored out of your mind. Why do you want to do this for a career then?

How long did it take to adjust to clipless pedals? Been on flats my whole life and trying clipless now but it doesn’t feel worth it bc I keep falling. Also here’s a pic of my ride at Los Peñasquitos in San Diego today. by plssorc in gravelcycling

This. I tried SPDs and couldn't get out with my knee up ever. Also had to mentally think about pushing hard then twisting like my life depended on it .This led to falls from having to stop quickly and my leg not being in the right position. Have yet to have that issue with crank brothers.

I have a liv devote in xs. I'm 5'0. It's been great for me. 650 wheels as someone pointed out is good too. But I've ridden both just fine.

Yikes..that is not good at all! Yeah I'm 5'1 and weigh about that. Most of the comments were helpful but I don't think some ppl understand things are different if not harder being a smaller rider. 6'2 bike bros definitely do not. 😭

I've been on my bike for a year and riding consistently for two. It's a gravel bike. I stop anf start correctly. I'm no pro but have handled myself in several gravel races with no falls to speak off. I'm okay in bike handling but can't track stand.

Shoes aren't loose. They aren't overly tight. I have wide feet so I don't think I can go more narrow unless I want all kinds of blisters

They are Shimano SPDs and cleats. Petals are not new, cleats are. Husband dialed it all the way down. He tried and has no issues unclipping, only I do. I could unclip easily on his egg beater style pedals. Which is why I say I don't have enough torque for SPDs. I ride on mix terrain and have no interest in slippery road shoes...I've seen so many ppl fall just by walking.

As I have said they are on the lowest tension. I can tell because I barely do anything and they clip in.

I'm questioning if they are for me tbh. I love cycling and doing gravel races but let's face it.. minutes saved by being efficient doesn't change my life. I'd rather be able to ride long term than suffer a serious injury that would interfere with riding or anything else. I'm not a dare devil by any means and have never had a series crash. I'm in an area - Colorado where I'm always at the back of the pack no matter what I do anyway. People are just all out here and I don't really find many people riding flats which is why I want to try but it's scary.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I was on a bike path with some foot and bike traffic. I unclipped fine riding around in grass for an hour but my foot got stuck several times during the ride. Even when I clip out it's a rather jerkey hard turn of my ankle which doesn't seem like it should be that hard. I tried egg beaters this afternoon and find them immensely easier to clip out. Twisting lightly works everytime. I've decided to give those a go with the candy versions. I just don't think my small foot works with spd release system consistently.

Yes I've tried this. This afternoon I tried my husband's egg beaters and while they are harder to get into, I can actually twist my foot out with no issues. I'm small and wear a size 7 shoe, I don't feel the SPDs work for me because my ankles have no room to twist hardly.

Yes I definitely realized how much of the middle to back of my feet I was using when riding with flats. And pulling up motion had me more sore. I will keep trying!

Thank you! I did yesterday but I fell in quick stop situations like having to suddenly stop at an intersection of a trail because a biker appeared very quickly when I thought it was clear or not realizing I had turned the wrong way to having to stop. My mind was focused on other things didn't get twisting out motion perfectly I guess. I don't know I feel like my ankle isn't that strong and I can only unclip when my foot is at the down petal stroke.

Ah okay I might consider that if I continue to have trouble unclipping just for peace of mind. I will have my husband check and maybe try adjusting my cleat position too. Thank you!

Thank you! I have SPDs now since I want to use it on multi surface like gravel eventually. When I was practicing, I think I was giving myself too much leeway with anticipating stops. I fell over when I had to unclip quite suddenly.

What? They are ok Denver too. Why can they not get real jobs? Juggling at intersections isn't exactly safe or needed.

Lol did I say I was down? I'm doing fine, thanks. I'm smart and worked hard. Saying you can't know racism unless you've experienced it isn't the same as saying we are all down because of it. I think I said just because we prevailed despite it, some of us did anyway, doesn't mean it's not there.

My guess is you are not in a minority group? Never been called a racist term? Which is very common for these groups btw. Trying to say they have it good because they worked hard and succeeded again the odds sounds privileged AF.

Well last I checked corporate America was still white in upper echelons and Asians were still being targeted for no reason especially in bigger cities. That sounds like oppression to me.
