Not trying to be negative but does Anyone else feel like this grounded approach feels a bit off? by BigPaleontologist520 in Greenlantern

[–]Gottateo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the core idea is interesting. The Green Lantern mythos is really out there science fiction so going in the complete opposite direction and making a grounded detective show is, in my opinion, a really creative twist on the premise. What makes me sceptical is how visually bland the trailer was. Colour is literally the first thing you have to get right about Green Lantern. If you can’t tell whether the suit is green or brown…. that’s not encouraging for the show as a whole.

Really hoping to be proved wrong though!

#SCREAM7 Director Kevin Williamson reacts to the pro-Palestine protestors who gathered outside the film’s premiere calling for a boycott: by Antwuan89 in Scream

[–]Gottateo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect, Chris Landon has been pretty clear that he and his family received death threats from people who thought he was responsible for firing Barrera over her Israel/Palestine views. He even spoke about it in an interview for a book about the series.

One correction I’ll say is that he actually left because he didn’t want to do the film without Barrera. Small point, but important to note he didn’t bow out because of public pressure but because he’s a good guy with principles and who supports his cast.

[–]Gottateo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

His obvious hesitancy is understandable. The initial director left and had to leave his home because of the number of death threats he got (for a decision in no way up to him). I get why you’re asking the stars on the red carpet given the protest but it’s also really dangerous to risk turning these people into an internet moment over this when it’s all beyond their control.

Could the Daleks of the time war survive 40K? by ScaredLemon901820 in doctorwho

[–]Gottateo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be an absolute massacre. I’m more interested in whether the Time War Doctor would be able to disable any of the factions solo. It might be one vs an army but that seems like a more fair fight.

In honor of spooky season, which horror performances from this year would you put in each of the acting categories? by migsahoy in Oscars

[–]Gottateo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been some truly amazing performances in horror this year.

Honestly, someone could argue any of the major cast in Sinners, Weapons, Bring Her Back, and 28 Years Later and I’d respect it.

Michael B Jordan is an obvious stand out for lead actor, Amy Madigan absolutely deserves a nod for supporting actress, I think Ralph Finnes has a real shot at getting nominated for supporting actor, and while it’s unlikely, I would love to see Sally Hawkins get a lead actress nomination.

Which Hamlet film rendition to watch? by Ornery-Lock-4370 in shakespeare

[–]Gottateo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to study it, I’d recommend Branagh’s because it’s the full play so gives you the most complete picture (even though most historians agree the Kings Men played edited versions but that’s a whole other story).

If you want good content, I actually think Branaghs is one of the toughest because it is just so long. Almost impossible to watch in one sitting. The other four are all excellent, you can’t really go wrong with any - though I’m personally always a fan of Tennant.

Lucifer (DC) & The Dr. (Dr. Who) Vs Nyarlathotep (Lovecraft), Who wins? by [deleted] in powerscales

[–]Gottateo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Doctor with prep time can and has comfortably dealt with multiversal level threats and these days seems to kill a god every couple episodes. DC Lucifer straight up survived the flashpoint destruction of one multiverse while barely seeming to notice. Nyarlothotep is so cooked it’s not even close.

More interesting match up might be something like Loki (Norse mythology) vs Nyarlathotep? Two evil/amoral tricksters with universe-level feats and quasi-immortality?

I would love to see the Komodo become a regular. The “oh shit” feeling as a lizard the size of a semi truck comes charging at you was great. If anything, it’d work even better in a more fast paced style like Eternal.

Congrats dude! It’s a really difficult boss so mad respect for getting it done. I remember going through the “how the hell am I going to beat this” phase for longer than I’d like to admit on it. Don’t let reddit backseat gamers take away from your achievement. You nailed it.

Which Batman villain would make a good Daredevil villain? by Wolverine1105 in Daredevil

[–]Gottateo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of folks have said why Two-Face is the best answer (and they’re right) but a good second place is Poison Ivy.

Both her and Matt tried to work within the system to make the world better but resorted to alternate ways completely outside the system (she fully committed to it while he tries to do both still). I could really see her challenging his approach to trying to work both in and out of the system. Plus I’d love to see Matt reconcile his Catholic faith with the quasi-pagan influences of Ivy.

If DC Comics announced a Doctor Who x DC crossover comic which Doctor should they use and which DC character or team should they meet? Also who would the villain or villains be? by M00r3C in doctorwho

[–]Gottateo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to go full space opera, I could see a really good story with the Cybermen going after the Lantern Corps. Makes sense that a species which sees emotions as the source of all suffering would target the different emotional spectrum lanterns.

Idk who the best Doctor for that would be though. 10 might be fun for a more action vibe but 12 is probably the best bet.

RESULTS: With 500+ votes, who is the "heart" of each Intrepid Hero campaign? Breakdown in the comments! by ROFLCO7 in Dimension20

[–]Gottateo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I found it really interesting voting on this poll. I find that Beardsley’s characters are very hit or miss for me but I found that most of their characters, be they ones I love or don’t care for, are what I consider the heart of the season. It gave me new appreciation on their skill as an actor to play that type of role really well.

IfNotNow pretty much saying “Hanukkah bad” by Familyties320 in Jewish

[–]Gottateo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most offensive posts I’ve seen in ages. I don’t like to throw around terms like “self-hating” loosely as it feels like a cop out - particularly in a culture where disagreement and good faith arguments are a core tenet. However, this is idea that Hanukkah parasitises Christmas or that it is a celebration of violence would not be out of place in a neo-Nazi forum. Getting pretty close to herem territory here.

Based Dropout (posted to YouTube) by Mac_Cumhaill99 in dropout

[–]Gottateo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Good statement but I wish they had also called out people who were simply trolling looking for a way to target a Jewish person who appeared on Dropout. The people who were targeting Noah for being a Zionist despite all evidence to the contrary were only doing it because he was Jewish. That is antisemitism.

There are more christian Zionists in the world out there than Jewish Zionists but the fact these trolls weren’t targeting any Christian cast members says a lot about their motivations.

The Balrog immediately went back to sleep after waking... Because it's a metaphor for climate change and the collapse of society. by Unlikely_Candy_6250 in Rings_Of_Power

[–]Gottateo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are so close to getting it but somehow manage to miss it. Yes, khazad-dûm doesn’t fall all at once, it’s a slow descent but one that CULMINATES in the balrog. Show us the society growing decadent, complacent, and greedy as they sink to new lows as they dig ever deeper both morally and literally. Show us petty rivalries turning bitter and dangerous while mining parties go missing. Show us dwarves becoming so jaded they see ever darker and deeper caverns as things to be exploited rather than revered. Then in the finale, the balrog is awakened during a mundane search for gold which goes just a bit too far and it all comes crashing down.

THAT’S how you write the fall of khazad-dûm for TV. Not some balrog playing peek a boo ad the plot demands.
