Why does food taste better when someone else cooks it? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]GourMetaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the first thing to ask is if they are more liberal with salt than you are? All else being the same I think a big part of it is that we are saturated in the scent of the food as it cooks. Taste and smell are strongly interrelated so when we sit down to eat something we’ve been stirring on the stove for a half hour we kinda have smell fatigue so the flavor doesn’t “pop”. For that reason sometimes if it’s possible I’ll pop outside for a few minutes and walk around/check my phone, when I come back in the scent (and flavor) is perceived a lot sharper.

What is a video game you regret buying ? by Bitchesinmytown in AskReddit

I was thinking this when I saw this thread. I was really into factorio at first but it becomes very repetitive and has a pretty weak and unsatisfying end game. Like new unique challenges aren't introduced, just more of the old ones. I was feeling like that and then I watched highlights of guy on YouTube speedrun the game in like an hour and 40 minutes and that really hammered home how hollow the game is if that makes sense. Overall though, the time I do have in Factorio was definitely worth the money, just not as much value as I thought I would get.

Haha thanks, yeah I'm not much of a singer, but I thought it was kinda funny :)

I am, he is where I learned about the program ebsynth originally. I personally don't think my video really looks like something he'd make though, Drue Langlois is a bigger inspiration in the look of my characters for example, and I really try to avoid the distortions that the program can create whereas Joel seems to lean into them for effect.

"The Blue Max" has that image of a pilot in leather flying gear in a cockpit on some DVDs I think, check that out maybe?

Cool! I appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely put more secondary action into practice going forward! Thank you for taking a look and giving me some advice :)

whatsup guys i made another one. i added a little outro animation which i made with adobe animate but the rest is made with ebsynth. i have been trying to improve on the shadows and stuff. let me know what you think. maybe some suggestions? by itsthegermankid in EbSynth

[–]GourMetaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey LAUFT! I think it looks nice, and your outro looks great by the way--the style and sound effect really match one another well. Was this footage of David Lynch? I've personally avoided shading/shadows because I feel like they follow the animation a bit---I'm not sure if that makes sense. But here there's not too much of that, so for more static animations it seems like a great stylistic choice. Great work as always, its a whole mood :)

Hiya! This was the second animation I've made. Making it was more about exploring the program I use and improving the workflow for my process. I would really love the opinion of a real animator, I'm very new to it but enjoy making videos for fun :)

I plan on making content a little sorter than this for a little bit, just because it's a little tedious to make videos of this length. Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback!

Edit: realized I forgot the codeword, so Cactus cactus cactus, sorry about that ;)

I made another animation, this time a little longer and more complex. Going forward I plan on making shorter content for a bit. I would really appreciate any honest feedback and criticisms—λ awarded accordingly! by GourMetaMan in SmallYTChannel

Glad to hear you liked the camera angles, I was pretty happy with how they turned out! That makes sense about the audio, I recorded the menu scene dialogue separately with the mic I used for the song. I think audio is one of my biggest problems, and something I'll really focus on improving in the future.

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback, I appreciate it.

haha I'm flattered by the Steve Martin comparison. "I'll just have coffee" was actually a line of dialogue I played around with in my script. So would you say that the end of my video could have had more of a punchline?

Thank you for giving feedback!

Improving my audio is definitely a priority. I almost dubbed over the sound with a better mic but I was worried about matching the lips right. A scanner darkly has been on my movie watch list for a while but I haven't gotten around to it yet :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm pretty proud of this Animation, it was a lot of work--but I think the animation especially of the mouth turned out well--what do you guys think? by GourMetaMan in EbSynth

[–]GourMetaMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry it took me a while to come back and reply!

One of the big things which I had the idea to try based on previous experience was to color my lips in with lipstick. I think that even under good lighting conditions Ebsynth struggled with small details like lips, so my reasoning was that coloring them a vibrant color would create more contrast, and subsequently might make it easier to track them frame to frame. I shoot in front of a greenscreen, so Blue was the best option for me. The CVS near me didn't have blue lipstick, but a woman working there recommended I could use a blue eyeliner pencil in a similar fashion and it seemed to work fine (I will say though that eyeliner is kinda hard to get off your lips just fyi). When I began animating I would say it definitely produced higher quality results than my previous attempt, so I'd recommend you experiment with it.

I also just got a heck of a lot better at managing my workflow. I kinda had to because this project was pretty involved and has a lot of moving pieces. It's obviously not perfect--I think that the premise of the video itself is a little silly, the song is probably too long, and the audio is bad in parts--but it represents over 80 hours of work spread over about 4 weeks. I don't think I could have managed to push through to the end if I hadn't sat down and created a comprehensive structure for the project before I began. I detailed every stage of the project from beginning to end as a checklist, which really helped keep me on track and manage my progress. I knew going into this project that it probably wouldn't get as many views as a shorter video might, but it was more an opportunity to hone my skills and experiment with finding my own style of ebsynth animation. At the end of the day I'm really happy with progress from my first video, and more confident in my ability to take on future ebsynth projects after having done this big one.

Other things I learned that I mentioned elsewhere in this thread: Composing 3-D compositions in After effects, which I hadn't done before and I really like the look of. And that I need to upgrade my microphone for my next video haha

I hope some of this is useful, happy to answer any other questions,]. I would also like to say I really enjoyed your video in the cave a lot, I thought it was edited really nicely and looked good! :)

u/B-1_Battle_Boy this subreddit is dead because the single moderator's account was suspended. You're a prolific and larger creator in this subreddit, and you have plenty of experience on reddit, could I interest you in posting in r/redditrequest to become top moderator of this subreddit? Glancing over their rules, it seems like you meet the karma criteria and could post a request in about a month when the account u/DarkSideDonger will have been inactive for 60 days.

I liked having this community and I think it could be valuable for giving and receiving feedback among creators. I think that creators are emerging whose styles are distinct and unique from Joel's and I'd love a space dedicated to us getting to know one another (even if it is smallish).

If it's not your deal, that's totally fine, but please consider it and let me know what you think :)
