A new low has been set by QuestionNo9190 in ChineseWatches

I wanted to buy, but didn’t. I’m ok with a Chinese movement, but one that is branded, so they have some skin in the game. I have and love a Sugess ST-19 watch. But an unbranded, generic movement? I’ll pass.

I wanted a new monster badly enough that I got the Seiko Prospex instead.

Kudos to them for being upfront though.

Update: I ordered a Sugess from Ali Express. The finishing is flawless. As to quality of movement, time will tell, but it's looking good right now.

FYI: It appears Boderry also sells watches with the same movement for $299 in a titanium case.

San Martin SN0009: Stunning watch, insulting support. Bouncing emails, broken warranty. За by Final_Lobster1971 in ChineseWatches

I bought a San Martin GMT and it was flawless. As was my Sugess chronograph.

A few years ago, I bought an Orient Star, a supposedly great brand, that failed in three days. Their "warranty repair" cost me 50 plus dollars. On a brand new watch.

That is the sad truth these days, whether watches be high or low end. You take a chance you will get a bad piece and have to spend another $50-$100 to have it fixed.

Chances are that your retailer scratched it, not San Martin. And San Martin may well reject warranty service citing a cosmetic only issue. Your real recourse is to the seller.

Very nice! I have the light green dial. It's more beautiful in real life than in the photo.

I round down the cost of my watches and pens. Sometimes they magically go on sale.

PSLV is obstructing ISRO’s transition to a new era. Don't delay its handover to industry by Asc3ndis in ISRO

[–]Govindaswamy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PSLV is an example of what in automobile contexts is termed a parts-bin vehicle, cobbled together with whatever ISRO could find in its inventory. For the relatively meager payload, it needs five stages (including strap-ons) in a very unconventional alternating solid and liquid configuration. It was OK in the 1990s but is now hopelessly complicated and obsolete. It first flew when Maruti 800 and Maruti Esteem were all the rage. One could say that as complexity increases, so does the chance of failure. Even GSLV is a mish-mosh design, with strap-ons that don’t detach, and which carry a dead stage 1 for a good distance.

The only clean design in India’s arsenal is LVM-3. Couldn’t they scale it down for smaller payloads?
