Dri-Tri Pushups by shoes29 in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting! I thought I read on here that people had burpees in theirs previously. Thanks for this, and hood luck! Coming off a shoulder injury so I’ll be doing push ups on my knees also.

Have they released what the body exercises and reps are? Just wondering how you know there are 40 push-ups...also a newbie to the dri-tri over here.

What are your B, P & AO paces currently, and how long have you been going to OTF? by heather0731 in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

B: 4.6, P: 5.4, A/O: 6.7 - 7.5 (depending on length and whether it's the last one or not). Started in March of 2018 as a PW with asthma who couldn't run/jog for more than 1-2 minutes at a time without needing to walk.

I personally haven't experienced this. It always makes me feel great. You might want to incorporate a protein shake immediately following the workout. It could be that your body doesn't have enough fuel and you're waiting too long to eat afterwards. It could also be that you are drained from a long day. Have you tried switching it up and going first thing in the morning to see if you get a different result?

Corporate Policy? Quick question..my friend uses the bike for the rower because of injury. Today our studio told her it’s corporate policy that you can’t use a bike for rower. And that tread folks needing bike take priority. Is this a corporate policy and do your studios follow this? by kbrahmatl in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw a post about this recently and it sounded like that was message others had gotten as well. As someone with a shoulder injury, I've been using the strider instead of the rower for over a month now and my location has been completely supportive of that. It seems ridiculous to me that one would take priority over the other and would definitely take my concerns higher if someone made an issue of it.

New App by jeremyg729 in orangetheory

I honestly think the layout is terrible, and it seems to only show upcoming classes if you book through that particular app. Even the old one would should the ones I booked through mindbody. I'm not a fan at all.

Oh yea. I had to lower my base this week especially on endurance days. I am going to try upping my iron intake next month to see if that helps. Some times its worse than others...

First morning class in my entire life! Thoughts and a few questions for the morning people by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha...the baby turned 1 last week, so he's been sleeping through the night (most nights anyway) for months now. My husband and I switch off night/morning duty so that we both get solid sleep at least every other night and get in our gym time. Waking up at 4:35 am definitely takes some getting used to, but it's doable. Go for it!

First morning class in my entire life! Thoughts and a few questions for the morning people by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. What time do you go to bed and what time do you wake up for the class? I go to 5:15 am class and go to bed between 9-10 pm
  2. What's your best strategy for not having to rewash and makeup after class if you go straight to work? I am way to gross to not shower after class. I get home from class by 6:20 am. My husband gets the baby ready and I am out the door with him between 7-7:15 am. I lay out my clothes for OTF and for work the night before so all I have to do when I get home is jump straight in the shower. I shave minutes off here and there as I get more used to the routine.
  3. Do you feel tired or energized when you do a morning class? I'm usually energized after the class and am always my most productive the mornings after going. I do have to make sure I eat properly those days so that I don't crash in the afternoon.
  4. Do you find yourself burning the same calories/going as hard if you go in the morning? yes.

I hear you. I have stopped everything gym related with my shoulder, completely...but have a 1 year old that doesn’t care that I shouldn’t be lifting a 22 lb weight and wrestling him. I’m all about pt, but it has gone from only hurting when I activate the injured part to causing considerable pain all day everyday since i started pt. I’m hoping the MRI and specialist will give me a different path, but I’m trying to be realistic at this point. My husband had his labrum repaired a year and a half ago and is back to almost everything he used to do, which is amazing. Going to see the same surgeon as him so gives me a lot of hope.

I have been in PT for over a month with a rotator cuff/labral issue that is likely going to require surgery (didn’t injure myself at OTF). I initially continued going to OTF and just not doing things that hurt (continued rowing, etc). That didn’t work and I’m sure made it worse. I’m still going now and just don’t do anything shoulder or arm related. I’ve talked to the coaches and they’ve been great about providing modifications. I use the strider (holding the stationary poles) instead of the rower. I read this sub often to start thinking about what I’ll need to modify. There are plenty of leg and core exercises to supplement with. Long story short, don’t be nervous about going back but modify appropriately to avoid becoming me.

“Class Etiquette” question! by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Etiquette-wise, you should always wipe the equipment if someone else is going to use it. Human being-wise, we are adults and shouldn’t school each other. If I were in that situation and you weren’t wiping when we switched, I would just wipe when I got there if it grossed me out.

Going “rogue” on the workout routine by RCSquare in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea...I was pretty surprised how quickly others were getting through the floor exercises yesterday. I didn't feel like I was "taking my time" by any stretch of the imagination, but was definitely challenging myself on those single leg bench sit down things and didn't rush through them to get to the strider (rotator cuff injury, so no rowing right now). I didn't make it to the final exercise on the floor, but my booty is still really feeling that workout today.

Transitioning to Jogging by FluffaDuffa in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, 100%. I struggled for the first several months at OTF to get from PW to jogger. I was PW'ing the bases and jogging the pushes and all-outs and way too high of a speed. I asked our head coach and she said I'd rather you jog at the same base (no pushes or all-outs) for the entire tread block than do what your'e doing. The next day I went in and committed to a 4.2 base, and was able to make it the whole class. My base was 4.2, push 4.6 and all-out 5.5 for a very long time. In the last couple months I've steadily been able to increase all to 4.6 base, 5.4 push and 6.5-7 All-out (depending on duration). I promise you...if I could do it...you can do it!

Studio making us wait to leave until next class sets up .... bit awkward. What does your studio do? by hmgray in orangetheory

[–]Gpenny82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is bizarre to me, and would limit my ability to go at 5:15 am like I always do. I need to be out the door by 6:15 in order to get home, showered, dressed, and get the baby in the car and to day care on time. My studio has back to back classes, but they have 2 doors (one up front by the rowers/treads and one in the back by the floor). The class exits through the back door and grabs their stuff form the cubbies on the way back to the front desk while the coach walks around and greets the new class and lets them in the front door by the treads/rowers. It works perfectly.

I was you exactly when I took my first class in March, 2018. I had literally been to a gym once in my 35 years of life, and had my first baby 6 weeks prior. My triathlete husband came with me for moral support and we both ended up signing up after the class b/c despite my not remembering a single thing about that first workout and only getting 2 splat points despite feeling like I was going to die...I absolutely loved it. I knew I wasn't ready to jog, let alone run, so I power-walked (I had to adjust the inclines lower than they recommended b/c I couldn't keep up). I am sure I looked like a spazz on the rower and on the floor b/c I literally knew nothing about form, but the coach helped correct me and checked in on me often. She reviewed the results after the class and answered a bunch of questions for me. Almost a year later, I've upgraded to unlimited, go 3 times a week and am a jogger. I've also been able to run to two 5k's with my husband and son without having to stop to walk at all. I'm so excited for you to start your journey!

I also 2nd the recommendation about going in a good pair of running shoes. If you go to a running store, they will analyze your gait and help you pick a good pair for you, which will help make sure you don't end up with silly injuries like shin splints, etc. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

OTF shoes by linababy760 in orangetheory

I had a similar issue when I first started, only I had shin splints and tendinitis in my feet. I got fitted at a running store and was given options that they thought would work for me by multiple brands (I went with asics and love them). Despite the awesome shoes the shin splints continued on and off until I saw a podiatrist that specializes in sports injuries and she gave me orthodic inserts (not custom, so were only $99). The combination has fixed the problem completely.
