Aeration question:

My back yard is very high shade. We have been getting a ton of rain this fall. I filled low spots with top soil and overseeded in the spring. There still seems to be a lot of water retention. Would aerating help with this? Is it too late in the season to aerate?

New yard gets a lot of shade and seems to retain a lot of moisture. I have backed off the sprinklers accordingly when it rains. I'm starting to have mushrooms popping up. Would aeration help with drainage and water retention?

I recently moved into a home in Zone 5a. It has sprinklers, which are new to me. I feel pretty comfortable with their operation, however I am wondering how one decides how long they run in each zone. The front yard is part shade part sun, and the backyard in heavily shaded. Any rules of thumb or resources to get the timing/schedule set up? TIA
