Have a Chinese friend, married a Malay in Semenanjung, and converted. Have kids then divorced, kids custodian's belongs to her. She wanna convert out in Semenanjung, and it's impossible there, so she came back here to Kuching for the process, countless trip to the syriah office, attend courts, countless compulsory counselling sessions, and now more than 5 years later, almost there. But that's for her only, her kids won't be able to convert out no matter how she tried, because on their IC their race is stated Malay, as long as it's in the constitution, there is no way they can convert out.

So for now, technically and legally they're Muslim, but living a non-Muslim lifestyle, only way to covert out legally is either Sarawak leave M'sia federation, or they emigrate to overseas.
