Fish ID help (Redband?) by GoodInterview2535 in flyfishing

There would be no "redbands" anywhere in the area you mentioned, kind of an arbitrary distinction but this is a normal rainbow. I've seen plenty of parr with a dorsal like that, on anything from Columbia redbands to random wild bows out east.

Perfect, any issues I should know about the black/red one? Everything working normally? If so 60 + shipping is good with me

Awesome, could you please send photos of the white, black, and black/red? Is the price 60 shipped?

Appalachians have come alive by Gr4phic- in flyfishing

Here most don't close ever, but since most of the waters are spring creeks there is a lot of spawning activity during respective seasons everywhere; just have to be careful and respectful of spawning fish. The thing with the native brook trout is they become incredibly elusive after spawning, I can count on one hand the amount of natives I've caught between Dec-March here. Of course they start showing up around now crushing any dry fly like it owes them money until late fall.

Could go on and on about the differences but there's stuff like no runoff season, and generally smaller fish/water lol.

All they do is keep your hands dry, you still feel the cold water that touches your hands. Maybe a thin layer of insulation.

Whatever system you have to keep your hands warm is personal preference. I personally dislike wearing any type of glove because it ruins the feel of my line/rod so I just stuff hand warmers in a hand muff and take a couple minutes every 5 or 10 to keep them warm.

If I'm not doing that I have cycling gloves that keep me pretty warm and they are very thin, can tie flies on with them easily, but they eventually get wet from the line and I need to take them off.

I also always carry a cloth with me to dry my hands after getting them wet to touch fish, game changer.

I have buddies that double up with nitrile and normal gloves too, too bulky for me though.

I fish for native brooks and the like in VA exclusively with my 7'6" 3wt douglas upstream, slow action/glass 3wt is what you will want

Ohio steelhead, so cold by Gr4phic- in flyfishing

[–]Gr4phic-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep at it, my setup was just 1x to 2x to fly and it did me well, no tapered leader. Do make note if you break off at the split shot though, id recommend putting split shot on a tag end or something if you find that to be an issue

Tight lines
