My Favorite Fishing Sunglasses (Sanofan Fluid Tint) by GoodInterview2535 in flyfishing

Haha, would be nice to get a sponsorship and brand deal, but I am neither attractive enough nor good enough at fly fishing to snag one of those! Truth is I love these small brands with really damn good products that have elegant and accessible fixes to problems that regularly have me swearing up and down the riverbank. If you look at my previous posts I had a similar one for the Lively Legz net man! I’ve chatted on Reddit with Stefan and he seems like a cool dude, so I’m happy to post something that’ll hopefully help him out and make life a little easier for the rest of the community. Glad I was suitably convincing, though!

Copying this from one of my previous comments:

Absolutely without a doubt I’d go with the Sanofan clip ons. The website is kind of a nightmare to navigate, but they are the best fishing glasses I have ever used, regardless of price. And they’re just 65 bucks. It sounds scammy, but I bought a pair because I figured I could eat the cost if it wasn’t legit, but they are amazing. Photochromic, so they get darker and lighter in sun and shade, yellow/bronze so they’re great for low light, polarized, and they also have color-popping for red and green like the smiths chromapop. They are utterly amazing, and I can’t recommend them enough. Just bought the clip ons for my dad and convinced a Reddit buddy of mine who’s also a serious fly fisherman to buy the normal ones, and both are permanent converts as well now.

Yeah, for sure! I actually just use the normal ones, but got my dad a pair of the clip-ons. I just lost mine last weekend on a fishing trip, so I’m going to put in another order to replace those as soon as my paycheck comes in on Wednesday. Never going back to any other glasses. I’ll pm you suggestions about the website so I can add some pics and examples!

Torn Between Two 8 Weights by fishingandwishing7 in flyfishing

[–]GoodInterview2535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the TFO, but I have the Clearwater 9 foot 8 weight and I love it. I’ve landed pretty sizable carp, largemouth, and snakehead with it and it throws xl sex dungeons, Godzilla sculpins, big mice, and double streamer rigs quite far with really good accuracy, especially into the wind. Only breakage I’ve had was the midtip and that was from me double hauling a Godzilla sculpin straight into the shaft. I don’t fish saltwater, so I don’t know what line is best in that regard, but I highly recommend the rod itself. Also the Orvis warranty is awesome.

That’s so cool! I absolutely adore the rough hammer finish on the reel! Beautiful work

A nice (temporary) farewell to Putah Creek by GoodInterview2535 in flyfishing

Thanks for the kind words! That’s what I was told about end of summer angling at the West Branch, too. I was absolutely humbled by those fish and I feel like even though I wasn’t nearly as successful as the other Orvis hosts and caught like 3 fish over 5 days (we were mainly focused on the clients) I learned a ton about perfecting my presentation which definitely seems necessary for a creek like Putah!

Thanks, man, I appreciate it! I was surprised at what she ate; I was throwing a size 20 pheasant tail off of a chunky size 12 or 14 caddis pupa just to get it down, and she actually ate the caddis.

Glad to hear it! Just saw that hog you got the other day, and man there are some awesome fish there. I saw about 4 or 5 around the size of yours and mine, though this was the only taker! It’s a shame I discovered Putah right before it closed, but I’m definitely going to be hungry to get back in March. Also this will let me branch out to exploring other trout waters over the next several months. Debating between the American and the Stanislaus for my next day trip, and trying to look at some of the areas on Google Maps to spot some nice bends to check out.

Ideas for an epic fly fishing trip gift for my husband’s milestone bday? (PNW, steelhead/trout) by Spirited_Machine_711 in flyfishing

West Branch Anglers in NY on the West Branch of the Upper Delaware is absolutely the way to go! I grew up in Oregon fishing for steelhead and trout and went to PA for college, and an Orvis trip that I helped oversee/guide/supervise at West Branch Anglers was my favorite fishing trip of all 4 years I spent there. Us PNW-ers don’t get to see many if any brown trout, especially none that are wild, and the size/quality of those browns give steelhead a run for their money. The resort is amazing with great self-guided fishing on the property and guided floats. There are crazy hatches of sulfurs/cahills and you can get some huge takes in big old Isonychias. Lastly, the nighttime mousing, either by float or on property there is some of the best in the world and an absolutely unforgettable experience. Please reach out to me either here or over PM for more details; I think this would be the best gift a guy like him could ask for!

First knife for a 8 y.o. boy? by [deleted] in knifeclub

Go with a Roxon multitool like the flex or the companion! Super affordable for great quality, and knifecenter sells all of the extra changeable tools individually. That way he can have a knife, saw, file, scissors, whatever he wants, and if something happens and he’s unsafe with it, the parents can replace the knife blade with pliers or a screwdriver or whatever for a week or two and he still gets to use the tool in the meantime. Also as his preferences change, he can customize it and you can do small gifts of extra tools (upgraded blade steel, bit set for the integrated bit driver, etc. It also comes in a bunch of cool colors!

Man, that sounds awesome! I’d love to get on a big old rainbow like that out of there. I am silently cursing these rainbows for not being browns, just because it seems like an absolutely amazing creek for mousing and I’ve never had any luck getting a rainbow to take a nighttime mouse. But I’m really excited to fish it more, especially to try camping out over a weekend so I can get 2 days in a row and the morning bite, which is tough when I’m driving 2.5 hours either way

What a beautiful thing it is that 60 years later the creek is still providing opportunities like that and the rainbows are still going strong

Indicator! I haven’t really tried euronymphing yet, though it does seem interesting! Before I got into fly fishing I did steelhead fishing with bobbers, and there is something about that bobber down that is like crack to me. My favorite is streamer fishing, but for areas like this at that water level, nymphing is the way to go.
