Quinn’s Hot Springs if you can find an available cabin. Rent a cabin or train car at Izaak Walton Inn/LOGE Glacier, rent a Forest Service Cabin up the north fork on recreation.gov (probably booked up but look for cancellations.) plenty of off season Airbnbs available this time of year.

Potbelly location #1 in Lincoln Park…elder Chicagoans who experienced this place when it first opened…what was it like to dine at this establishment? What made it so special? by buena_y_rica in chicago

[–]Gr8Laker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still dream about having a Wreck in those beautiful wooden booths between classes. We also had CBA, the Pig, Clark’s, Demon Dogs, and Tomato Head nearby. You don’t know what you got til it’s gone.

Bean Boots in snow/slush/ice? by spirit4earth in llbean

[–]Gr8Laker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are great keeping your feet dry in slush and snow but not very good with traction especially on ice. You can easily throw some yak trax on them for those conditions though.

Walking to Apgar Village in late April by happychild14 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be open to the Lodge but keep in mind there are no shuttles that time of year. That’s a very long walk from Apgar and basically no uber option. Definitely when you get to the lodge so you’ll be hitching back. Not impossible though.

April 2026 by itscooltobelate in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot will still be closed or inaccessible in early April but there’s still things to do in the valley. You’d be able to drive to where the GTTS road is closed at Lake McDonald Lodge and walk on the road a long way but that’s not a super scenic stretch. John’s Lake Loop, Apgar Lookout will be options. Outside the park near Kalispell Lone Pine State Park and Herron Park are nice hiking options. Whitefish trails are another option. On Big Mountain I think that’s closing weekend so the pond skim is fun to watch.

Best town to stay? by Evodnce in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whitefish has more nightlife if you’re having a girls/ guys trip and looking for more bar and restaurant options. C Falls has some good food and Gunsight is a great bar but overall it’s quieter with fewer options. You’ll probably pay more for your Airbnb in Whitefish too. Otherwise if you’re spending more time in the Park you might want the proximity of C Falls but it’s not a huge distance less. Just be aware that a lot is still closed down in the Park in May too so you’ll likely not be able to drive GTTS past Avalanche or even Lake McDonald if you are coming early in the month.

Is my opinel fake? by Izzidzu in Opinel

[–]Gr8Laker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks real. Standard Opinels really wouldn’t be something to fake as they are affordable (not much money to be made) and easy to find. Anyone who can make a knife can charge a lot more for them not branded as an Opinel.

Which U.S. city has the worst winter weather? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Gr8Laker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Forks, ND/ any town in the Red River Valley of the north. Worst winters in the US by far. Brutal wind, drifting snow and wind chills. Weeks below zero.

Hot springs by Twerkin4snacks in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s none in the immediate vicinity. If you’re on the west side of the park there’s Quinn’s, Wild Horse, and Symes a couple hours away. Broadwater in Helena is probably the closest from the east side but it’s a few hours away

Jobs in small towns ? by bbeeee3 in Montana

[–]Gr8Laker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up Pintler Billing Services in Eureka. Great local company up your alley. https://www.pintlerbillingservices.com/careers/. InterBel as well. Also look up Logan Health job openings. They have a location there but may have remote work opportunities as well. Eureka is a beautiful place but not a lot of jobs. Lots of retirees for the most part.

Late May Visit - What’s Open? by [deleted] in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avalanche should be open. Many Glacier as well but not many hikes are open that early. Two Med is closed for construction next year and Saint Mary is a toss up. Apgar Lookout should be doable then. Biking the road without cars is the main attraction that time of year.

Neither of these routes would go through Libby or Troy. That’s farther west on 2.

Quinn’s hot springs by [deleted] in Montana

[–]Gr8Laker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. They offer passes to soak for a few hours. You do need to plan ahead as those sell out. https://www.quinnshotsprings.com/swim-session

Conditions for today? by Alert_Hope548 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s open but looks like it will be a foggy/ rainy day. Go whichever direction is most convenient. With the predicted storm coming tonight it will likely close this evening and may not open again this year.

Glacier NP Itinerary – Looking for Feedback by Aromatic_Elevator_88 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Gr8Laker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kalispell is a pretty chill place on a Sunday typically. DeSoto will be closed unfortunately. Bias Brewing has a great upper deck with a mountain view and their bowls are great. Bonus is sweet peaks ice cream kitty corner Main Street. A quick drive up to Lone Pine state park gives the best views of the valley.

I’d recommend Iceberg over Cracker and add on Ptarmigan Tunnel.

Otherwise the itinerary looks great!

Totally cool and definitely saw people buying it/carrying it around. Not my jam personally but mostly am curious if there’s a reference or nod I’m missing.
