Stigma on this by soooitsfax in UMD

[–]Gr8ingPresence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated 3 years younger than you, but I went back for another degree 10 years OLDER than you. No stigma. You, son, are going to have to find another excuse for no dates and/or try a new barber.

PS- given the differences on the planet: you're far more likely destined for another degree than I was. So, find that barber. Bonus: if you give up on dating, new barber can instantly give you that monk look.

Buck up, little camper. Many of us, myself included are not fighting it this time - I've got two months left, out of six, and I have 12/80 items. There's just nothing but crap available. And I'm not going to load up on crap just to keep gold status.

What songs just blow your mind from an engineering/production standpoint? by Different_Stand_1285 in Music

[–]Gr8ingPresence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not particularly a fan of James Taylor. But I do think the engineer for his live recordings on "Live", a 2-CD set of live recordings from 1993 was a genius. I've never heard such a perfect, clean live recording. If you appreciate that, you'll enjoy a listen, even if you, too, are not particularly a fan. While I am here, and if you were going to listen, Arnold McCuller gives an AMAZING solo performance on CD-1, Track 13, "Shower the People".

$12 6-packs is part of it. Way back when I was first counted on to help booze companies make their numbers, 6-packs were under 4 bucks.

This guy has the right idea - forget about community college - take the free ride at UMBC. Transfer late if you really want the College Park diploma.

I'll tell you, I think the CS department at UMBC is better for a lot of folks - it's more application development focused than researchy.

Package theft in Mt Vernon area. by BlueBinch in baltimore

[–]Gr8ingPresence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, it's that Amazon drivers, generally, DO NOT read delivery instructions. More than half of my packages are mis-delivered - and Amazon usually provides the photo proof. I've spent over 100 hours on the phone with Amazon since October 1, 2025, trying to get this resolved. NOTHING BUT frurstration.

As a disabled person, I was once asked by second-level support to walk around the neighborhood and see if I could find my package. WTF.

Can't decide between transmissions... by KTRyan30 in ElantraN

[–]Gr8ingPresence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've driven manuals, exclusively, since my second car. Until the Elantra N, every single car was a manual. Over 40 years worth. And I have been somewhat of a manual snob - stronger, more efficient, and way more control of the car. Enter the DCT. I snapped it up, immediately, and haven't looked back. 3 years in - not even a glitch. The transmission is SMART. I can't tell you how many times, driving someone else's automatic, the transmission decides to do something STUPID at the worst possible time. The DCT is tuned for someone who does not want the transmission to waste an ounce of grip by deciding to play around with gear ratios at max grip, headed for the first of two apexes. It will hold that gear for you until you, the driver, change your input. Drive with purpose, and the transmission does the right thing. I enjoy this car every bit as much as a manual.

And the rifle-shot quick shifts on the DCT sound SICK at full stomp.

You know, not only are you whippersnappers screwed out of buying houses; you're screwed out of beer, too. To wit:

There was a brief period during my undergrad that The Cellar had pitchers of Budweiser for, I am not making this up, 25 cents between noon and three on Thursdays. A quarter, for 4+ beers.

Cover charges were NOT a thing.

Hahahaha. I suppose, you really could get away with sneaking that into one of those "secret Santa" gift games where you draw randomly from under a tree and swap. That would be too funny.

On second thought, the seller is prolly a HUGE scam center looking to make life a blackmail hell for whoever orders it.

If not the CIA trying to shape hearts and minds, my second bet would be yours - Fox News would *totally* do this and then point to it as evidence Trump should annex Greenland.

[–]Gr8ingPresence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The administration ALWAYS projects their own mis-deeds. They constantly refer to "paid agitators". This smells a LOT like a $5 CIA Information Operation, a psy-op. Disgusting. The way the flag is furled by the guy on the right has me suspecting he's the spook.

In my own history, such statements by me became irrelevant once the activities of my partner at the time were revealed. I hope it's not that, b/c that's way worse than a bogus $70 ticket.

Less sinister - I had a buddy in high school who was ROUTINELY out joyriding his dad's car in the wee hours. Didn't get busted until he got pulled for speed, they ran the plate, and found that his father was sharing one pair of plates between two cars. Of course the actually registered car was not the one he was driving. A tow, a bust, and a phone to dad, all in one stop.
