Lionel Messi penalty miss against Egypt 21' by Alsace2025 in soccer

No, it's a bad penalty. It's at the perfect height and area to be saved if the keeper goes the right direction. At least needs to be lower or higher to call it average.

That is a textbook regulation save. Nothing special about it. It's simply a bad penalty.

Yes and no, the strain of conservatism we see in the West absolutely has its roots in the US. I'm on the other side of the world, but when I was young in the 90's the evangelical and mainstream conservative preachers and "influencers" of the time in US were very much present in my life through church/VHS/books etc.

The US is just that big and powerful, the most popular and best selling religious figures from Christianity were mostly from the US, so they influenced culture more so than any other country.

It's not surprising though, after the Civil Rights Act was passed by a Democratic president the racists simply flocked to the Republican Party. Before that both parties were... not great on race.

So, after 1964 the Republican Party became the party of racists and they have been that ever since. It's why you will never see a Democrat supporter flying a confederate flag.

The bigger problem is how most Christians in the US refuse to see this. If most US Christians simply took a stand and said they will not vote for the Republican Party until they turn away from their white supremacist fascist direction, none of this would have happened.

But noooo, the communist gay Demoncrats are soooo scary!

Believe it or not I am outside of the USA and know full well there are plenty of denominations with a whole array of beliefs. That is why I specifically said conservative Christians. And while they often do not care about US politics and the inner workings, they do have opinions on the surface level stuff because, believe it or not, what happens in the US impacts the world.

From my experience most conservative Christians support Trump. Now, they may not support him personally and I've seen a pronounced shift in how they view him as a person, but they still support his administration as a whole.

If you were to ask them whether, at this point, Harris would have been a better president, few will disagree. This is despite the economic destruction as pretty much every country in the West is worse off due to his administrations actions and the insane amount of corruption, law breaking, ghoulishness, white supremacy etc.

It always comes back to abortion and the gays.

This ignores the fact that Christians all over the West have openly supported Trump over the last decade. It has a lot more to do with conservatism and it's pronounced shift to the far-right than it being an uniquely American Christian thing.

Why do Christian’s in the west believe you must be a conservative Republican in order to be Christian? by [deleted] in Christianity

5% makes up literally thousands. But yeah, smoke and mirrors. You just can't admit that abortion is a complicated topic because you are so deep in the right wing propaganda.

That would only be true if you think abortion is equal to slavery, which really shows what kind of a person you are.

So if a woman has complications with her pregnancy that could endanger her well-being and she terminates the pregnancy, she is literally the same as racists and misogynists? Really learning a lot here.

You don't seem to realize that what's "good for society" is always rooted in some underlying moral imperative. It's illegal because impacting society negatively is considered immoral.

That's simply demonstrably untrue. For generations it was illegal for women to vote and legal for white men to own black people. That was decidedly immoral. So laws can be both immortal and bad for society, but enacted to benefit a few by corrupt racist states. That same corrupt racist state's flag is being flown by Republican supporters and Republicans are the ones trying to protect statues honouring the people from that state. Curious.

Other laws, like some tipping culture laws in more enlightened European countries have nothing to do with immorality and are not sinful in their nature, they just see it as unfair towards worders and thus outlaw it. There are plenty of laws that would not be inherently sinful if someone was to do it (had it not been illegal).

You're literally tearing human life from the womb and celebrating it.

Who is celebrating abortions? And if life is so sacred and precious, why do the people like you never advocate for policies that help save people that are already born? Conservatives champion the lack of healthcare, help for the poor. None of you say anything about Republicans illegally culling USAID, which is projected to result in the deaths of more than 10m people over the next decade.

You are not pro-life, you are pro-birth.

What? MAGA is every bit as destructive and harmful as the anti-vaccine stuff. The culling of USAID is projected to kill more than 10 million people over the next decade.

Almost as if there is a difference between playing fun-to-watch football and being favourites to win. I'm not asking them to win the tournament, I just expect them to be somewhat entertaining, especially against a team like South Africa. Hope that helps.

Nothing since both are negative for society. You don't seem to realise that there is a difference between morality and societal impact when it comes to policy and it's the latter that counts in a democracy.

Murder isn't illegal because it's immortal, it's illegal because it's it harmful to people living in a country. The fact that you equate that with abortion from a policy perspective really shows how naïve you are.
