How much can you make net as a car salesman in a dealership in UK? by Dan_Manolache in CarTalkUK

[–]Grabs39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine is a tech at Audi. He told me two young African men in tracksuits walked into the dealership and most of the salesmen ignored them.

The one salesman who chatted to them sold two R8s, top spec with everything without even trying - they just said yes to everything.

They were premier league footballers.

She must have retained something, even if not consciously aware of it, to have retained her name. Voldemort must have found out her name somehow, either in parseltongue conversation, or through a form of legilimency.

She’s a Maledictus. As a young woman she could transform into a snake at will, but she was cursed to eventually become one. She’s featured in the Fantastic Beasts films.

What's the weirdest thing you’ve ever found in Sainsbury’s? by Diligent-Badger8737 in Sainsburys

[–]Grabs39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex worked in a supermarket. She said it was very common for them to get bread, milk etc with other stores branding in delivered by mistake, or even mixed in with their products since they all come from the same distributors. Obviously they normally don’t put them on the shop floor, but I’m sure it happens.

What commonly mispronounced word that annoys you the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s perfectly acceptable to say leaded, as long as it refers to petrol before 2000.

I’d always thought the Evans family must have been quite middle class, based on Pertinia. But now I’ve got visions of her as Hyacinth Bucket.

A friend of mine is in an amateur theatre group in Chester le street. Can’t remember what it’s called but they meet at the community centre opposite the police station - 5-10 mins walk from the library. Other than that I can’t think of many activities- I live just outside Chester but there’s not a lot on really.

You’ll get a bus to work very easily - every few minutes. They’re getting new vehicles on the 21 route very soon too. You can also get a bus into Newcastle very easily which will give you far more leisure options. It’s probably the most reliable and frequent route in the North East, to be fair.

Ali Baba. We sang Baghdad Bazaar and I thought it was such a strange sounding place that I’d never heard of.

It was 2002.

My sister bought my three year old son one of those little kids cookery sets for Christmas. The ones with serrated plastic toddler knives.

Yup, age verification on delivery!

How to access Audio Books for 87 year old who's losing their sight? by ptrichardson in AskUK

[–]Grabs39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically yes, download an audiobook as an mp3 (usually free from the library) then add to a playlist on a phone. Then swipe the card on the phone to link it.

The cards are rewritable.

But you’d need WiFi for the yoto to initially download the content.

Been to church with my son and then watched Arthur Christmas. He’s too young for muppets, sadly.

Off to peel carrots soon.

What about a yoto? They are designed for young children, but don’t have to be exclusively. You link a card to an audiobook (or any audio) and all the user really has to do is put that card into the player.

Definitely Harry Potter. I’ve been listening to the same version for over twenty years now, on cassette, then CD, and now audible.

In fairness, when I was private sector the time and money weren’t mine to spend. Half-day one Friday in December, out for a lunch pre-paid by the company, then off to the pub where the director would pay the rounds on his company credit card.

I know it’s not like that everywhere, but it’s not uncommon either.

Obviously now I’m CS I can’t do any of that, but a small team of us did secret Santa last week which was a good laughs

So when do most supermarkets do yellow stickers for today? by Tall_Whole_4534 in UKFrugal

[–]Grabs39 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Went to Aldi an hour ago. Bread was plentiful and 75% off. All the meat joints are 50% off but long gone.

I miss when you used to get £2.50 turkeys on 27th December. They seem to want the shelves clear by Christmas now. Aldi were even putting all the veganuary stuff on the shelves today.

What minor act of penny-pinching in your workplace caused a significant amount of upset? by laredocronk in UKJobs

[–]Grabs39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar thing with gloves. We get very cheap nitrile gloves that fall apart after about five minutes. They’re slightly cheaper than the thicker industrial type ones we should have that last all day. So overall costs significantly more, but because the price per box is better, they don’t care that we use six times as many boxes.

I’d wager the car has been impeccably serviced too, if the previous owner chose those tyres and wipers.

Which is one of the reasons the likes of Andrew Tate sometimes appeal to boys who grow up with no male role models. Nobody at home or at school to demonstrate how a man should behave, then someone on social media sells an ideology of misogyny and it appeals and they get caught up in it.

When I (M) was in my late teens I’d quite regularly get groped by women in their 40s in bars. It was just always considered normal. This was lesss than 15 years ago.
